Lina Pov
"I'm done. Five, handsome, I'll be in the living room if you need me." I said, walking back inside the mansion.
"...Jeez. Someone's changed a lot," Diego grumbled, holding his crotch in pain.
While the two males rolled around in the lawn groaning in pain, I went to the living room to get myself a shot of tequila. I could hear muffled conversations by Vanya and Pogo in the front lobby, but I let them be. The alcohol burned as it went smoothly down my throat, warming my cold body.
"You need to be better than everyone, Carol. Be the ultimate weapon. Don't ask. Don't think. All you need to do is to pull the trigger- all you need to do is to listen to orders."
"But- Mom, I-"
"No buts, sweetie. Or do you want to go to the water chamber again?"
Unpleasant memories of my biological Mother flushed over me as the alcohol ravaged through my system.
At first, I strived to meet her expectations. And I did. But as the days went on, I slowly came to realize that the woman didn't love me. She just needed my powers. She'd originally promised me that she would let me go back to the Hargreeves if I completed all 1000 cases she assigned me within a month.
But she went back on her word.
It took me five additional months to track Five down, steal a briefcase, and meet up with him.
"Lina?"
"Mmm?" I mumbled, looking back to see Five walk towards me with a worried look on his face.
"Drinking isn't good for your health, Lina."
"Says the biggest- *hic* drinker I know."
"Come on, let's go for some coffee. There aren't any in the house."
"Well, yeah. Dad *hic* hated coffee."
Five dragged me down to the kitchen, where Klaus and Allison were talking. Allison approached me with a worried look on her face, which quickly turned incredulous as she realized that I was just drunk.
"Do either of you know where the car keys are?" Five asked, setting me down on the kitchen table.
"It should be in the cup holder in the front seats of the car. Why? Wait, are you going to take Ro-ro with you? She's drunk!! And do you even know how to drive?" Allison questioned.
"I know how to do everything. And yes. Excuse me if I want to bring my wife out for a cafe date."
Five spatial jumped us to the car in the garage, driving the two of us out into the unfamiliar, modern streets. I put my seat belt on, and rolled the window down to enjoy the feeling of the cool night wind hit my face.
"Five, remember the story I told you of how I told others my past and said that I didn't find my past to be sad?" I started slowly, feeling the alcohol leave my system.
"Yeah. You said they didn't understand."
"You were, and still is, the only one to not sympathize with me. Instead, you understood me and stuck with me for who I was, even after all the changes that I'd gone through over those six months that we'd been apart."
"Lina, you're the only one that's stayed with me over all those years in the apocalypse, even when you had many chances to leave. So to me, you're my saviour, lover, and the one person that I'll protect at all costs. You accepted me, protected me, supported me, understood me, and loved me. It's only right that I do the same for you."
I laughed a little at his sweet words.
"Someone's feeling soft today, aren't we?" I noticed, before seeing a familiar neon sign come into sight.
"Oh my God!!" I said, recognizing the shop that he'd driven the two of us to.
"This certainly brings back a lot of memories."
"We used to sneak out and have little dates here all the time." Five commented, and held his hand out for me.
"Come on. I'm craving for some decent coffee."
Hand in hand, the two of us entered Griddy's Doughnuts shop. But the moment I set foot into the store, something in my stomach lurched.
"Lina? Is something wrong?" Five asked as the familiar feeling of foreboding washed over me.
"Just another gut feeling."
"Good or bad?"
"Bad. Something pesky's going to be happening soon."
"Nothing that we can't handle, for sure."
With that, we settled ourselves down at the tall stools on the counter. As soon as we did, an older man walked into the shop and also sat down, giving us a brief glance.
"Sorry, the sink was clogged. So, what'll it be?" An old waitress said, walking out of the back of the shop with an apologetic look on her face.
"Uh, give me a chocolate eclair." The man replied.
"Mm-hmm. What about your kid and his girlfriend here? Can I get them a glass of milk or something?" The waitress continued.
"The kid wants two coffees. Black. And a chocolate eclair. And for your information, she isn't my girlfriend. She's my wife." Five responded, scoffing lightly.
The waitress gaped for a brief moment, before smiling.
"Cute kid." She commented, before walking away.
I held my snickers back the best I could, but it was obvious that Five didn't like his childish form. But to be honest, it was adorable. The general situation just added that little sprinkle of extra funniness on top.
