A/N: Listening to; "Consider Me Gone" by Reba McEntire
(I LOVE ME SOME COUNTRY!!!)
I hope you enjoy today/night's read!! It was a fun chapter!!
Third Person P.O.V
Jay paced, not caring who he kept awake. Not like anyone could sleep anyway. Other than Tristian, who'd passed out with his swords in his hands. Xakk chewed on his thumb, eyes following Jay silently, while Vinny looked out the window. "They're not coming back." Vinny muttered. Jay finally snapped, "Well then we need to go look for them. I'm going- I don't care if anyone else is-" He lunged towards the door, but Lee stepped in front of him.
"Let's take a walk, Jay." He said.
As soon as the door closed, Jay asked "Are you seriously-" "You and Tim were good friends," he started slowly, "And I understand your pain. I lost my friend too." "Well, that's just great-" "This is a tough time. You're going to have to make some tough choices. A lot you're not gonna like"
Lee stepped over, leaning over the rail above, looking over the parking lot. From the silence, Jay asked "How do you know?"
"Firebrand told me. Also told me about Brain."
"Wha-"
"And," he turned, "That you do need to get a move on, but not for Noah and TJ."
"I'm not leaving without them."
"They're already on their way. Just... in a different ride."
"And what does that- you know what? Never mind," Jay shook his head, "What about you? Tristan?" "We're going to hang back for the time being," he sighs, his relatively awake persona faltering for a moment, "But we're gonna be close. When you need us, we'll be there. I figure he'll take a nap for now- inter-dimension travel really takes it out of you." "What..." Jay shook his head, turning to go back in and get the others. But Lee grabbed his arm.
"I know about the mask, too," He said, "Tim's... Bad things are attached to it, you know?" It took a moment for him to find a response, the hallow clawing its way back into his chest "...It's all I've got left of him..." "I didn't say bad things were 'bad', if you know what I mean," He let go, "We're going to have to do some bad things for the better good... bad as they are."
As they pulled away from the hotel, Lee stood on the balcony, watching silently, like an owl in the night. Jay wasn't sure if it made him feel safe or worse. Probably a little bit of both.
Or a lot...
...
"WILL YOU JUST READ THOSE BLOODY MAPS?!" Lexx shouted, Habit replying "Y-You try it!" "I'm driving!" "I'm dying!" he couched, throwing the map onto the dashboard.
Noah and TJ waited behind them, tied together at the wrists. TJ tried to get her feet apart, but the cult members were diligent, watching their move and not afraid to hold a knife to their throats.
Lexx glanced at Habit when he coughed, but said nothing. Noah wasn't sure if she was just trying to ignore him, or not signal anything being too off to him and TJ, a.k.a the lovely kidnapped van-guests.
But if the latter was true, it wouldn't be useful; no one could look over how pale and bloodied Habit had grown. Not of any victim's blood, but his own. Habit was having issues in Evan's body... perhaps Evan was fighting back? Maybe he was trying to take his body back from the inside, Noah reasoned before leaning forward slightly, trying to ignore his survival instincts.
"Evan?" he asked, "Are you fighting?" Habit whipped around, blood flinging onto the hostage "Shut the f*** up, a**hole," he couched, "Evan ain't here, so shut. Up." "Can you fight, Evan?" He pushed, "are you trying to get out?" "SHuH-" Habit started coughing harder, blood droplets sent onto the windshield.
A knife pressed against his neck, and TJ whispered his name, a warning. He could feel her hands shaking, even as his own did. But he pushed, "Habit you can't hide in there forever. You know it. Remember when you almost took Evan too far-" Habit whipped back around. He opened his mouth, but before he could yell, his eyes rolled back. He went limp between the seats, Lexx hardly budging the wheel.
She shoved him back and said "We're not stopping. If he dies, it's on you." "A lot already is." Noah trailed off, sinking back into his seat.
...
The sun rose over the humid ocean air. Brian was still adjusting to it, but he made sure to tuck his hoodie into his backpack before coming.
The park only had a few visitors so early, mostly joggers. One passed by on the sidewalk as he spotted a man on a bench. The man, in fact.
He approached, hiding the knife tucked in his pocket. The man looked up from his computer, glasses shining in the morning sun. "Umm, can I help you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Kevin Haas?" "Yeahh?" "I want to ask you some questions about Noah Maxwell."
