Chapter 20

*Vanessa's p.o.v*

       My back hits the bed and I groan. I feel so sad. I've been throwing up a lot recently. I take paranol assuming I'm sick. That's when it hit me. I grab my period tracker from my side drawer. Not knowing what day it is, I call for Raymond.

''Honey?!''

''Yes?'', he answers from inside the bathroom. He's taking a shower.

''What's today's date?''

''It's the 22nd!'', he yells back.
I glance at the period tracker on calculate the days from the last time I had my period, June.
''twenty seven, twent eight, twenty nine, thirty...'', I whisper.
Shit! I missed my period

I quickly order a pregnany test online. I'm told my order would be here in ten minutes. I sigh. I couldn't possibly be pregnant... but then, we recently started having sex more often. I'll still keep my fingers crossed. I'm not worried if I am. Raymond has already told me he wants children of his own. He would be thrilled if I am pregnant. Raymond walks into the bedroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. He smiles at me. I smile back.

He asks as he dresses up, ''Why did you ask for the date?''

I shrug,''Nothing...''. I'm interrupted when the doorbell rings.

''It's here'', I announce getting off the bed.

''What's here?''. I quickly ran downstairs to the front door ignoring his question. I open the door and the delivery guy offers me a smile.

''Here you go'', he says handing me the package.

''Thanks''

''Oh, sign here''. I take the pen on the clipboard and sign. I hand him back the clipboard and he walks away. I close the front door and run back upstairs. I quickly run into the bathroom slumping the door behind me. Raymond knocks on the door. I open it

''What's with the secrecy?'', he asks with eyebrows raised.

''Not now. Just gimme my phone''

''Okay pushy'', he teases. Raymond walks back into the bedroom and grabs my phone from the dresser. He hands me my phone and I quickly shut the door.
        I take out the three pregnancy tests. I take one test and a set a three-minute timer on my phone. I sit on the tub. My mind goes back to the day Julian was born. I've always wanted a baby. My imagination takes over me when I imagine a future with a happy family. My eyes flatter open when the timer goes off. I look at the pregnancy test, it's negative. My heart sinks. Then I remember how there can be false negatives. I take two more tests. They both come back positive. I open the bathroom door and run to Raymond with the tests in my hands.

''I'm PREGNANT!!''. He embraces me.

''I'm the luckiest man in the world'', he whispers into my ear. I giggle.

''Let's go see the doctor''

''Okay''. He gives me a quick kiss as we head out.

       I open the door of the gynaecologist. Raymond pulls a chair for me to sit in.
He's such a gentleman.
He takes a seat. The doctor offers he hand and Raymond shakes it. She smiles at me.

''Hi. I'm doctor Lauren Matthew'', she introduces herself. I nod

''What can I do for you today?''

''I missed my period so I took a few pregnancy tests. One was negative but two were positive'', I narrate.

''Alright. We'll have to take another test to be sure'', she tells me. The doctor calls in a nurse. The nurse walks in with a syringe.

''I'm gonna have to take your blood sample'', doctor Lauren says walking over to me. I pull up my sleeve as the needle goes into my vein. I wince. Raymond squeezes my other hand. The needle soon comes out and the nurse rubs my arm with alcohol.

''Alice and I will take the sample to the lab and run some tests. Okay?''

''Sure'', Raymond replies. She nods and walks out with the nurse.

Raymond cups my face and kisses my forehead.

''Calm down Nessa''. I nod and he pecks my lips.

       The doctor walks in a few minutes later with the lab results.

''Mr and Mrs. Smith, I've got great news for you. You're pregnant! Congratulations'', she announces. Raymond picks me up and twirls me.

''YES!''

I laugh.''Put... me down!''. He obliges and I kiss him. Doctor Lauren smiles at us.

''You need to see the ultrasoundCome over here'', she says and walks into another room. We follow her. She gestures to the bed and I lay flat. I pull my shirt up as she applies a gel on my stomach. Doctor Lauren rubs my belly with the transducer. It goes up and down my belly.

''There it is'', she says looking the the ultrasound scan. I look at the monitor and a tear slides down my cheek.

''Our sweet angel'',Raymond whispers. I look over at him. He's crying.

How cute.

''There's his heartbeat'', Lauren says. My gaze goes back to the monitor. The sound of my baby's heartbeat makes me smile. This baby would soon be a part of my world.
