Lotus Blood - Age 18

"Here, we can take my car-"

"Are you okay?"

Macy's question caught me off guard and I distractedly opened the door to my car and got inside, while also completely ignoring he. A large sigh flew past my lips and I stared in front of me as I formulated an appropriate answer.

"What makes you ask that?"

"You look tired, Lotus."

My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, and I finally turned to Macy's distressed expression, her eyes crinkled and her lips turned down into a slight frown. Turning on the car, I focused on backing out the car to maybe deter Macy from bringing up too many things.

"You get headaches so often, you're incredibly irritable-"

"I'm always like that," I said pointedly, cutting her off and weaving my way out of the busy school parking lot.

Macy glared at me before continuing, "you hardly listen to the things I tell you, your grades are slipping, you don't react as quickly as you used to-"

"Okay! I fucking get it, Macy! I'm fucked up!" I yelled, slapping my hands on the steering wheel and gripping it until my knuckles went pale. It was silent in the car for a long time, aside from Macy pointing out directions to a Starbucks we had planned to go to after school.

Pulling into a parking space, Macy's fingers wrapped around my wrist and she forced me to look at her and stay in the car for a moment longer, "I'm just worried about you, Lotus. Please tell me if there's any way I can help." Nodding, I averted my eyes and we got out of our respective sides before heading inside.

Don't try to fix me.

You can't.

I already tried.

"What can I get you today?" the charming barista practically giggled - her fingers poised over the screen used to input orders.

"I'll have a small caramel frappuccino," I mumbled, and Macy piped up behind me with her order for an iced guava passion fruit drink - venti while she handed me a twenty to pay for both beverages.

"Name?"

"Lotus for both," I only said my name to make it easier for them to scrawl it on the two cups before they ushered us to stand near the counter where we would receive what we had ordered.

"Ugh, I should've gotten some dipped madeleines or something," Macy whined, crossing her arms over her chest and eyeing the small bag of them near the other baked goods. I rolled my eyes and told her to just get back in line to which she replied, "waiting in line twice is for losers."

"Iced guava passion fruit drink and small caramel frappuccino for... Lotus!" Macy and I stepped up to grab our drinks and we took a table near one of the large windows to chat.

"So how are you and Hunter?" They had been dating for a couple of months and I thought he was a royal pain in the ass to Macy. He acted like a child despite being eighteen and I wondered how Macy put up with his whiny and annoying demeanor.

"Dumped him," Macy said abruptly, sipping her pink drink and shrugging while checking if her nail polish had chipped. Grinning, a loud laugh bubbled from somewhere deep within my throat and I almost felt bad for Hunter - Macy seemed to give zero shits about him.

Well, that's solved.

"So, how'd that work?" I said, barely keeping a straight face and slurping my cold frappuccino.
