y'all i'm so sorry i can't think of names for the life of me

trigger warning for vomit :)

With a groan, I blindly searched for my phone, my obnoxious alarm blaring. Hastily, I got ready for the day, brushing my teeth before I washed my face and eventually pulled my hair into a messy bun on the top of my head. I pulled my bed covers up before I walked through the door.

As I sat down on my zabuton, Zane handed me a plate. It was a perfect looking omelet - thank god it was Zane's day to cook, not Cole's. I looked around the table, the usual laughter and chaos filling the room. Laughing with the team, my eyes settled on Kai. His food was untouched, and he was quiet. It was unlike him, he was always ready to eat - and he was always making fun of his team.

"Is the human torch ever gonna speak?" Cole teased, trying to get a reaction out of the tired looking fire ninja.

Kai rolled his amber eyes, staring at the plate in front of him. Everyone around the table exchanged glances, quieting down. The boy looked like a shell of his typically energetic self.

As we all walked outside to begin our morning training, Kai trailed behind. I slowed down until I was walking next to him, smiling up at him. His hair wasn't spiked up for once, and it fell onto his face, covering his eyes as he looked at the ground. His fire-colored eyes had lost their spark.

We all trained, working on reflexes and fighting without weapons. I fought Kai, watching as he sloppily dodged my kicks, his moves slower. He looked like he was going to be sick, but he fought through it. I grew increasingly worried, noticing Nya watching him. Training ended early, though Wu didn't say why. We all knew it was because of Kai, but he hated the thought of others thinking of him as weak.

Everybody else left to go elsewhere, but I stayed with Kai, sitting in the lush, green grass with him.

"I-I really don't feel good," he said softly, his hair soaked with sweat and his face pale.

Standing up, I held my hand out for him to take. I pulled him to his feet, and slowly walked inside with him, his clammy hand in mine. He rested his head on mine as we walked, his strong body shaking and weak.

Finally, we got to his room. I unbuckled the various belts on his gi, turning around as he changed into a pair of sweatpants. His shirt was off, cold sweat dripping down his muscular chest. He looked so unwell, his hair wet from how much he was sweating, and he looked absolutely exhausted.

I led him into the bathroom, his fingers threaded through mine. He sat down on the cool tile floor, leaning his back on the edge of the toilet. With my back against the wall, I smiled at him, watching as his cheeks flushed red as he smiled back. His face fell as he quickly turned around, coughing and spitting into the open toilet.

I crawled forwards, sitting behind him on my knees. He started to vomit as I held his hair back and rubbed his back in small circles. I winced as he continued. Reassuring him with an "it'll be okay, you just need to get it all out," I caught him as he started to slump backwards, his poor body exhausted.

And so we sat in the bathroom, Kai's head on my lap as he looked up at me, his eyes filled with gratitude, though he was too tired to speak. I held a cool rag to his forehead as he slept fitfully. By the end of the morning I had moved him to bed. We spent the day watching movies as he came in and out of sleep, my arm around him as he snuggled me.
