Jang Nami spent her weekends at her part-time job as an employee of Lotte World. She was tasked with supervising the queue of one of the most popular rides in the entire park, the rollercoaster named Atlantis. She would ask the people in line how many they were in the group, then seated them accordingly.
"Hello, how many?" She asked. The girl in front of the queue held up four fingers.
"Please go to number two." Nami said. The girl and her friends went up behind door two as they waited for the rollercoaster to return.
"Hello, how many?" Nami asked again. This time, it was a boy about her age. He was cute, with dark hair and big, brown eyes. In fact, he seemed familiar.
"Um, one." The boy replied shyly, not looking Nami in the eyes.
"Don't worry, it's not as scary as it looks." She comforted, thinking that he was worried about going on the ride. The boy finally met her gaze, giving her a cute bunny smile.
"Please go to number one." She told him, smiling back. The boy slightly bowed in thanks before walking behind the first door, and Nami found her eyes following him. Then he looked back, causing Nami to blush and turn back quickly so he wouldn't catch her staring. She shook her head, turning her attention back to her work.
About half an hour later, she saw the boy in line again.
Then again.
Then again.
By the fifth time, Nami couldn't help her curiosity anymore.
"You really like this ride, don't you?" She asked the boy jokingly. She noticed that he was actually starting to look a bit green, like he was about to throw up.
"Y-yes." The boy answered, flashing his bunny smile at her again. Nami felt her heart flutter a bit.
"Please go to number seven."
"U-um-" He started. He was fiddling with the hem of his hoodie, looking nervous. Nami looked at him curiously. He looked like he was going to say something important.
"Yes?"
"Can I be seated at the back?" He finished lamely.
"Oh, okay." Nami answered. "Please go to number sixteen."
Nami watched as the boy made his way towards the far end of the line. As he walked towards the door, Nami could see him shaking his head in disappointment.
Soon enough, the rollercoaster was full again, then it took off. Nami did her job and assigned people to doors as she waited for the ride to return. When it did, she glanced back, seeing the cute boy get off. When both of his feet were firmly on the ground, he put his hands on his knees, looking like he was catching his breath and trying hard not to puke his guts out. After a while, he walked off, disappearing from Nami's view.
Oh well, I guess that's the last I'll see of him.
She was wrong.
A few minutes later, she saw him in line again. This time, he was with a friend- someone who Nami knew.
"Jin-oppa?" Nami asked when they got to the front of the line. The elder boy, who was the president of the student council which Nami was also a part of, smiled at her, and as she looked back and forth between the two, she realized why the cute boy looked so familiar.
He was Jeon Jungkook. He was a part of Jin's friend group which the campus had taken to calling the "Bulletproof Boy Scouts". They were composed of seven boys, all well-known for being top students.
"Annyeong." Jin greeted, then he clasped a hand on his dongsaeng's shoulder. "Hey Nami-yah, do you know this guy?"
Jungkook's face reddened as how casually his hyung was talking to Nami, who he had been crushing on ever since they had Asian History together during their freshman year in university.
"Jeon Jungkook, right?" She smiled, turning to him for confirmation. Jungkook nodded, not trusting his voice since he felt his heart skip a beat when she said his name.
"I've seen you around campus a few times. I think we had one class together." She told him, then she turned to Jin. "He's quite the rollercoaster enthusiast."
Jin raised an eyebrow at Jungkook. Since when did his dongsaeng become a rollercoaster enthusiast?
"Uh huh, sure he is." Jin teased.
The bells then rang, signaling the arrival of the rollercoaster.
"The ride's coming." Nami told the two boys. "Seats for two?"
Jin shook his head, not wanting to go on the ride. He looked expectantly at his dongsaeng, but the panicked expression on Jungkook's face told him that he had to take matters into his own hands.
"Oh for god's sake." Jin sighed. "He wants to ask you out."
Both Jungkook's and Nami's eyes widened at Jin's statement.
"W-what?" Nami stuttered. She looked at Jungkook to see if what Jin was saying was true. The younger boy felt like his cheeks were on fire.
"So, what do you say?" Jin asked.
Before she could answer, her manager whistled, getting her attention. He gave her a look as if asking what was holding up the line.
"I'm working right now." She replied. Jungkook's face fell.
"But if you want my number you can get it from Jin-oppa." She continued, winking at him, making the boy's mind go blank. "So are you getting on?"
Jin turned back and saw that the people behind them in the queue were starting to get impatient, and that there was no other way for them to leave without passing through the line of angry people who they held up, so he nodded in defeat.
"The things I do for you." He muttered to the still dazed Jungkook.
As soon as they got off the rollercoaster, Jin ran to the benches, sitting down as he oriented himself. Jungkook sat down next to him with a big grin on his face, looking like he wasn't affected by the twists and turns of the incredibly dizzying ride they were just on.
"Hyung, can you give me her number now?" Jungkook pleaded. Jin, still feeling the contents of his stomach threatening to escape through his mouth, just patted his pocket. Jungkook took the hint and got his hyung's phone, unlocking it and looking for Nami's name on the contact list.
"Ah, dongsaeng-ah. Everything is still spinning." Jin mumbled. "Did you really ride that thing five times because you kept on chickening out about asking Nami on a date?"
"Six, including this one." Jungkook answered absentmindedly as he thought of what to text her.
To Jang Nami: Hello Nami-ssi. It's Jungkook. I was wondering if you would like to go out with me next weekend if you're not busy?
'Just press send pabo!' Jungkook mentally scolded himself, but he kept re-reading the message, wanting to make sure it was perfect.
"Jungkook-ah, you're not writing a letter to the president." Jin groaned, snatching the phone from his hands and pressing the send button himself. Almost immediately, he got a reply.
Jang Nami: I'd love to~ See you around~
The two boys stayed seated on the bench for a few more minutes until Jin felt like he could stand up again without falling over. They then began walking to the parking lot, the entire reason for them going to the park in the first place completed.
"So, a date with Jang Nami." Jin teased, making Jungkook smile. "Where will you take her?"
"Anywhere without a rollercoaster."
