Enough
"I can't believe that he'd lie to me like this," I hissed beside Ico.
He was busy talking to a nurse, asking her about Maeve's room number and whatnots. In their group of friends, he always seemed like the one with a lot of secrets. He didn't seem nice but I realized now that he was, he's just not good at showing it.
Nilingon niya ako at mabait na nginitian. "Maeve's in the VIP. Kakagising niya lang galing sa surgery."
"She probably requested for Atlas right after she woke up, huh?" I whispered to myself.
"Io," he softly said and rubbed my back, "he's just probably worried for her, given that they're childhood friends. Besides, today's not the first time that I'd seen him here.
What a liar!
"He's dead meat to me," I said with gritted teeth.
When we had arrived in front of her door, I turned to him with a nervous look.
"What if they're kissing inside?" kinakabahang tanong ko. "Isn't that what usually happens in TV dramas? What if they're making out? Or having sex?"
He shot up a brow. "This is a hospital room. It's unusual for people to have sex here."
"E bakit sa airplane?" the words were out before I could help it.
Nagkatinginan kaming dalawa. I facepalmed myself inwardly. Great! Now you had done it, Iowa!
"You knew?" he asked, his eyes widening a fraction.
I nodded painfully. "We were in the next cabin, so..."
"Jesus Christ," he breathed, problemado na ngayon. He massaged his temple and in a whisper, he said, "Why did Sunny have to be so loud?"
Our random conversation got interrupted when the door cracked open. It was Atlas who opened it. When we locked gazes again, he swallowed hard. Para siyang magnanakaw na nahuli sa akto.
"Io, I can explain—"
"Las, who is it?" Maeve's sweet voice hung in the air.
Nagsalubong ang kilay ko. I wasn't the type to engage in any arguments, but the raging hormones within me drove me enough to do so.
"Why are you inviting my boyfriend over to your hospital room?"
She looked at me in disbelief. "Excuse me?"
"I don't want to have a petty fight with you, Maeve. But everything that you've been pulling off up until this moment is already too much for me to handle." I scoffed. "Talagang pinauwi mo si Atlas sa Pilipinas?"
I had been turning a blind eye about it these past few days, but realistically speaking, how inappropriate was that? What's more, he wasn't even in the country to attend to her easily. It's outright disrespectful!
