Chapter 10
-
[Misaki's POV]It was a Full Moon, and I couldn't help but to feel uneasy. That fool named Morikawa has become powerful unlike back then, and how did he even escape the prison of Ren's castle? There might be something wrong, and I need to know how he got that power.
I sighed, hearing Shiki let out a meow and glanced at him. I smiled to myself and pats Shiki's head. He rubbed his furred head on my hand and licked my finger, I giggled.
It has been a while since I left my uncle Shin's place, I wonder how he is now... and the cat I left to him as well. Maybe I really should take my time to visit him sometimes.
As I decided to take a book and read, I heard the door knocking. Confused, I stood up and approached the entrance. Who would come to this place at this hour?
"Who is it?" I asked.
"It's me, Kai." My eyes widened and I immediately opened the door. I saw him standing before me.
"Kai, what made you come here?" I raised my eyebrows as I questioned.
The brunette let out a sigh, scratching the back of his head and he gave a look at me. "It's not okay to meet you?"
"It's midnight." I told him, crossing my arms. He just let out a chuckle and I couldn't help but to blush at that. How attractive... wait no, stop.
I looked at him as he stared at me quietly, it felt a little awkward as we weren't speaking at all. So I had to break the ice.
"Want to come inside and hang out with me for a little while?" I asked him, and he nodded.
"Of course, I was about to ask you if I'm able to." Kai told me.
"You should've just told me instead of staring really quietly."
"Sorry about that, I just forgot what to say." He said and went inside. I closed the door and followed Kai to the living room, he sat at the chair while I went to brew some tea for the both of us.
I went back to the living room and sat with him as I put the teacups on the table. Kai gave a nod at me and drank his tea, and I did as well.
"I talked to Ren about Morikawa. He said he'll send his troops to help once Morikawa starts a war." Kai stated and I listened to him.
"And about the mysterious aura that I told you about, how is it?" I asked.
Kai took a deep breath and sighed, putting down his teacup on the table. "I assigned Miwa to do it, and he said there's nothing bad for now. But still, I'm trying to be careful."
"You should've stayed in your own place rather than wandering around the lands if you really want to be careful of your surroundings. The leader himself shall be in his safe space, correct?" I said to him.
Then, I suddenly hear him let out a chuckle as if he was making fun of me. "Correct, but I could say that this is a safe space as well. So it counts."
I swear, the audacity of this man...
"Are you serious?"
"As long as the goddess's blessings are with me, I'm safe."
I could only sigh at that statement.
After a while, we both finished our cup of tea. We were both quiet, and I wasn't even sure what to talk about to him. I took a glance at Kai and he was looking back at me. The atmosphere was awkward and silent, and I'm pretty sure he wants to break the ice as well as I do.
Shiki suddenly let out a noise, he went to me and purred. His head rubbed on my leg.
"He seems to be the clingy type." Kai spoke, I giggled and took Shiki to my lap and he rested there.
"He's just like you, Kai."
"How? I'm entirely a different man and creature like him, I don't see any resemblance at all."
I laughed. "What I mean is, you both won't stop coming to me. Honestly, it's like I'm comparing a father and his son."
The moment I said that, I realized how off putting it sounded. I blushed and looked down in shame, I cannot believe what I just said!
"Hm... it sounds like you're a mother comparing your husband and child, and I wouldn't mind so." He spoke, and my face reddened even more. Seriously...
"Just so you know, I just blurted it out for no reason. I still won't marry you that easily."
"Of course, I understand that. Still I won't stop courting you, but tonight's not the night." Kai said, I looked at him as my blush disappeared. "It's the calm before the storm, after all."
"A group of warriors against an obsessed fool who somehow became a threat to all kingdoms and nations combined. This is a very weird turn of events, I must say."
"Yes." Kai nodded, crossing his arms. "Well, I guess I should rest."
"You're going home?" I asked, and he shook his head. I got confused, what could he be thinking?
All of a sudden, Kai stood up and sat next to me. I was surprised when he rested his head on my shoulder, he closed his eyes and took a breath.
"You know, I won't be able to sleep as well if you sleep on my shoulder." I stated.
He let out a scoff and replied, "Then let me sleep in your bedroom."
"Denied, I'm making you sleep on the couch."
Shiki suddenly jumped down to the floor and walked away, going to his own pillow. I then heard Kai snoring, I jolted a bit and just gave a smile.
Slowly, I made Kai lie down on the couch and I had to get a blanket, before I put out the candle light, I took a glance at him.
He was sound asleep, and I could only smile.
I blew the candle lights off and went to my room to sleep. It really is like what Kai said, it feels like the calm before the storm.
