Emily rushed upstairs after locking the door. She ran into her room, grabbed her diary, her cell phone, some books, and put her hamster into a small carrier cage. She then rushed across the hall into her younger brother’s room. He was fast asleep, so Emily opened a book. and began to read. Time ticked by. Her mother had left half an hour ago, an hour, and hour and a half. It felt like days. Emily finally decided to call her mother. The phone seemed to ring for hours. Finally, her mother answered. “Emily! Is everything okay?
“Everything is fine. Where are you? Will you be home soon?”
“Emily, I am on my way home right now. See you soon. I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Emily said. Her mother hung up. After what seemed like an eternity, her mother was home. They gathered all of their belongings that they just could not live without. Emily grabbed her bag of stuff, her hamster, some hamster food, and then her laptop. Her mother took a scrapbook of her wedding, her wedding ring, a photo of Emily’s dad, her cell phone, and a beautiful necklace, which she put on. After putting all of their stuff in the basement, Emily grabbed all the supplies, and some towels and clothes for all three of them. Emily’s mother grabbed Shane, his teddy, some baby food, and his car seat to use as a bed for him. Emily also ran to get some blankets, pillows, flashlights, some candles, and two lighters. She glanced outside. The rain had turned to sleet. Then she ran into the basement.
