“Mom!” Emily screamed, and Shane began to wail. It was pitch black, and no one could see a thing.

“It’s alright, it’s okay.” Emily’s mom said in a soothing voice. “I’ve got the generator, we can plug in a lamp, and the laptop, and watch a movie on there.” She soothed, but in a strained voice.

“Do you need help, Mom?” Emily asked. Her mother said no thanks, then went to start up the generator. 5 minutes later, she plugged in a lamp and there was light. “Hello?” She asked.

“Emily?” replied a broken voice on the other side. “It’s me, Jake. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” She squealed. “I’m amazing! We’re all okay!”

“Oh, that’s awesome.” Jake replied. Emily’s mom had been listening, and she sighed in relief.

“Look, Jake, I got to go, Shane needs to go to sleep, but stay safe, alright?” I asked.
“I will.” He said. “The storm’s ended. And Emily…”
“Yeah?” I asked.

“It’s snowing. He said.
