In the basement, Emily waited. Her mother soon rushed down with baby Shane. They kept the lights on, and soon turned on the TV, and began to watch a movie, to become less scared. The plinking of the sleet soon turned to the pounding of the hail. Shane began to cry, and Emily comforted him. The world outside was a scary place. The hail was falling, mixed with sleet and rain, and you would not want to be out on a day like this. Emily reached for her diary, and wrote.

Today the weather is extremely  scary. My mother, my little brother, and I are all in the basement, expecting the worst. I am really scared and I don’t know what to do. My cell phone and my mom’s cell phone are both ready in case of an emergency. There will probably be an emergency. I really wish this wasn’t happening. The weather gets worse as I write. What I write today could be the last entries I ever write. I sincerely hope not.

Emily put down her diary, and looked up. Her mother gave a weak, worried smile. She was just as scared as Emily.

“It will be all right. Everything will be OK, Emmy, everything will be OK.” Her mother barely ever called her Emmy. She must be scared. She looked as though she wished she could believe what she just said. Outside, the winds picked up and began to howl like a wounded dog. Everyone was scared, even little, baby Shane.
