Emily glanced out the tiny window on the opposite side of the room. The wind was slowly growing stronger. There was rain, sleet, and hail, which were all getting tossed around in the wind. It was really rather stormy. Shane cried even louder than before. Emily’s mother ran over picked him up, and began to comfort him. Emily felt very hungry. They had been in the basement for two hours now! She needed something to eat. She went over to the food, and picked up a banana. She unpeeled it and sat back on the couch, slowing chewing. She wondered if they would survive this, and then it hit her. Jake wasn’t here. Her super-annoying, mean, older brother, Jake, was not here. “Where’s Jake?” She asked immediately. “Well, he’s at a friend’s house. He was going to stay the night. I hope they are prepared.”
The truth was, two miles away, they were not prepared. In fact, Jake, and his friend, Tom, had only just noticed the weather, and when the wind began to howl, they got nervous.
Emily was very scared now. She might hate her brother sometimes, but deep down, she loved him. She hoped everything would be okay. She knew she would remember this for a very long time. Perhaps, if she made until then, she would tell her grandchildren about this. She hoped she would be around to do that.
