The Brew is packed with people as William and I enter. Red cups in each hand, the sound of chug-chug drowning the sound of the rock music blasting from the speakers, Teens dancing wildly and a 'back to school' banner painted in red and black was hanging on a whitewashed wall.
"The place is crazy, isn't it Ava?"
"Yeah it is indeed. Let's get something to drink. I'm thirsty." We somehow make it to the counter and order a belini and a Cosmo.
"A cosmopolitan? That's so sex and the city of you," Mason calls out on my choice of drink. Bianca is by his side. Of course she wants to add him to the list of her conquests. "That's none of your business, Smith." "Mason, I prefer Mason, Ava." That's the first time he spoke my name since we met. It sounded strange to hear my name from his lips. A different kind of strange, a familiar kind of strange.
"Let's go Mason. Let me show you upstairs. The rooms are amazing, come let's go."Bianca pulls Mason away just when I was about to say something to him. He doesn't object and they both disappear upstairs. I finish my drink and I notice that William isn't by my side anymore. Where did he go? He left me alone here with these strangers. Well, technically not strangers, they are my peers but I ain't attached to anyone of them as much as William. I start looking for him and after what felt like a century, I spot him standing near the balcony. He was looking at something in the distance. I stand next to him and and try to follow his gaze.
"What are you looking at?"
"You remember the dance studio, right?" "Of course I do. How can I forget the studio. We spent the most amazing years of our life learning Dance there. It was our escape from every problem we had."
The studio was still the same as we left it five years. Same cherry wood door with the words Dance Studio inscripted on the wood. It was just a block down from where we stood. We joined the studio when we were four just out of boredom but we developed a strong passion to dance and I personally loved it there.I don't know why we left it in the first place. Maybe because we grew up and there were more important matters in our life then.
Nostalgia hits hard, and that too when you least expect it to.
"Hey guys get in here we are about to play some games come on," some guy calls out me and William. Well, just William, I'm just a package deal with him. William is quite popular among the guys for his football skills. Yep, he's into sports too. He's an all rounder. That pretty much sums it up. He's a perfect ivy league college material.
"In a minute Ron." William let's out a heavy sigh and smiles down at me. "Come let's go."
We join the others and sit on around a circular table on the couches. A blonde smiles at me from across the table and I return her warm smile with mine. Maybe they all aren't too bad as much I'd pictured them in my head.
My thoughts are interrupted my Ashley who spills her drink on my white dress. "Oops, my bad Avani. Washroom's that way. "Its Ava," I correct her. "Same thing." She says and occupies a seat around the table. I tell william thstvill be back and rush towards the washroom. I turn the doorknob but it won't open. "Occupied!" Somebody shouts from inside. I wait patiently. Finally the door opens and Mason Smith walks out.
"All yours Ava," he bows and I roll my eyes at him. To my surprise, he grabs me by my waist and pushes me against the wall. I'm pinned to the wall and his eyes are shooting arrows. "Never roll your eyes and me. I'm warning you Ava. Don't test me, I mean it." I'm breathless and I can't find my voice. "You are hurting me," is all I can manage to say. He lets go of me and backs off. He runs his hand through his hair and leaves me alone. I rush to the wash room and try to process what just happened in the last 2 minutes.
What's wrong with him? Is he so rude to everyone or did I do something in particular to piss him off?
There's a soft knock on the door and I hear William calling my name out. "Just give me a minute." I wash off the stain from my dress as much as I can and open the door. "Took you long enough." "Yeah the stain won't fade." Point towards the now light shade of brown and he laughs. "Come let's go play."
"We both join the others and i sit on the same spot I left. The room's now more crowded and even some are sitting two on a chair. One of them are Biznca and Mason. She's sitting on his lap. She's running her hand through his hair and he's enjoying it. His hand is placed on her thigh.
I cringe at the site of them, it disgusts me and I feel somewhat sad for Mason to be Bianca's next conquest. I don't realize for how long I'd been staring at them when william elbows me and asks," you okay?" "Yeah, yeah I'm fine."
I drop a text to mom that I'll be home by eleven. She must be worrying. This'll give her some peace of mind.
"Okay guys you all are here now let me start by introducing the newbies, Mason and Camile. I, on behalf of Bellary high welcome you to our prestigious institution."
"Cut the crap Ron, let's begin the game." Almsot everyone in the room say the same thing. This happens every year when Ron tries to be formal at such a wild party.
"Okay okay guys, let's begin the game of never have I ever!" He announces and the room cheers up.
