Goddammit, don't think about it, don't think about it, don't think about, listen to Flynn or something! I came out of my inner monologue to find my head cocked to the side and gazing at Zed's arse. I quickly straightened and hope that no one had noticed. Cam in the front row of people was obviously trying to hold in laughter. I am so busted.
"Most of you know how we have found oil on our lands and that we've been approached by many companies offering large sums of money, which we have refused every time. And you've probably heard of the outrageous amount of money that has been again offered recently. I am here to inform you that we are definitely refusing the offer again." People started whispering and shifting their feet. "We refuse these offers because we do not need the money and having humans and machines come onto our land, destroy it and threaten our safety cover is not worth it. I know there are some of you who believe we should take the money, but I am telling you why we are not. This is the Alpha's decision for the good of the pack. Zandra and I are agreed and our minds shall not be swayed. Now, let's forget about his and go on our run. Shift and group. We shall run soon." Flynn grinned and the Pack clapped though I could see some people were still hung up on the oil situation. Zandra had mentioned something about it to me the other day but she'd assured me that she and Flynn had it under control. I might have to speak to the influential Pack members to see if I could make it run any smoother.
I started untying my boots and taking off my clothes in preparation for the shift when I heard Zed behind me. I turned to see him and smiled. I liked it that we were trying to be friends. "Hey Phee. Look I've got too much work to do and so I'm going to be skipping out on the run. Could you tell Zandra and Flynn?"
"Uh, yeah, sure, but I thought we'd managed to get most of it done. Are you sure you don't have time for a Pack run with us?" It was then that I realised I'd never seen him take a Pack run.
"No, I want to get it done." He smiled at me but I could see that it was tense. Why wasn't he shifting with the Pack? It was in wolf nature to reach out to others for comfort.
I nodded and he went into the house. I stared after him for a few minutes thinking about him not running with us. What had happened to make him not want that comfort?
