Joe woke up first, the sunlight beaming down on them. He moved his head from ontop of hers, stretching out his arms. Pulling his phone from his pocket, he saw the time, '6 AM'. Taylor was still asleep, and Joe couldn't move, since her head was on his shoulder. He knew they needed to wake up though, before the park became more crowded and people noticed the two teenagers sleeping on the bench.
He slowly moved, and Taylor groaned as she felt her pillow go away. "I don't want to go to school, Mom."
Joe chuckled, "It's me, silly. Remember?"
Taylor rubbed her head, "Oh right. My head hurts."
"It's called a hangover," Joe helped her stand up, "Do you even remember getting drunk last night?"
"Vaguely," Taylor said, closing her eyes to block out the sun. "I'm tired."
"What happened to 'Miss. Let's-pull-an-all-nighter'?" Joe teased her.
Taylor punched him lightly in the stomach, "Oh, shut up. Can we go to the cafe for some water?"
"Sure," Joe said, already beginning to walk towards the street.
Taylor followed him, still groggy. "My back hurts."
"It's probably because you slept on a bench," Joe said matter-of-factly, eliciting another glare from Taylor.
She crossed her arms, "How do you not have a headache? I didn't drink that much more then you."
"Well not everyone is such a light weight like you," Joe smiled at her, pressing the button for the cross walk. Once there was a green light they crossed the street, arriving at the cafe. "What are you getting?"
"I might just get water and a bagel," Taylor said, looking at the different options.
"Me too," Joe replied, walking up to the cashier and ordering. After grabbing their food, they found a table, sitting across from each other. "So, what's the plan for the day?"
"I'm having a girl's night with Sel and Abigail tonight, I'm pretty sure Abigail has a lot of questions about why I came to her house at one in the morning," Taylor laughed to herself, taking a bite of the bagel. "What about you?"
"Actually, Hailey invited me out to dinner," Joe shrugged.
Taylor tried to disguise her disgust, she still hadn't told Joe all of the things Hailey had done to her. She knew that if she did, Joe would drop Hailey in an instant, yet for some reason Taylor held back. "Oh, like a date?"
"No, not a date," Joe was quick to correct her, "I'm honestly not quite sure why she invited me, I think she was mad after the weird mistake at the dance."
"Oh," Taylor couldn't help but feel a bit relieved. "Where are you guys eating at?"
Joe shrugged, "No clue, she said she had something in mind."
Taylor nodded, taking another bit of the bagel. Once they had both finished they stood up, throwing away there trash. "Do you want to walk around the park? It's only seven, our parent's won't expect us to be home yet," Joe asked, opening the door for her as they walked out of the cafe.
"Sure," Taylor replied, and they began to walk to the park. As they walked they gazed at the lake, which had ducks flying in and out. Instinctively Joe wrapped an arm around Taylor's shoulder as they walked, pulling her closer. Taylor's heart was racing, he's just being friendly, you guys are close friends, this is normal.
Walking in a comfortable silence they did a whole loop around the lake, and by the time they had made it back to the start, it was eight. "It's probably good to go home now," suggested Joe.
