They were waiting for the signal to attack and end that war for good. After all, the North remembered and any one who chose to mess with the kingdom would suffer the consequences, as it had been for hundreds of years.
Weirder that it was, Gerion felt that he was used to battle by then. When they had left Winterfell, the battle had been hard for they had to fight all of the troops at the siege or at least make them return to their camp. The battle had been bloody too, but exciting all the same, Gerion always loved fighting and, after months without doing a damn thing, it had felt good to do something that led to the end of the siege at last. It was the right time, and they had been able to tell that the besiegers were less every day, no doubt due to the squirmishes with the Six Kingdoom's army. While fighting, Gerion's mind had been blank, at the end of the battle, however, Gerion had looked around and felt that they had made it, but many had not. That was something that had escaped him in the last battle back at the Wolfswood camp. His father and uncle had told him that it was normal not to notice everything that happened in battle until the battle was over, it was what the two of them called 'battle fever'. Gerion had been happy to know that the enemy had returned to their camp, he had been a little bit concerned as well due to the fact that his mother had to stay at Winterfell with small groups of troops, they could not let the castle alone. Still, he had decided to focus on the task at hand which had been to make a small camp and to prepare to attack the enemy's camp.
As of then, when he was on his horse waiting in the vanguard for the battle to start, Gerion wondered what was happening in the battlefield, how had the others fared in camp all of those months and if his brother felt the same way he did when he fought. Gerion knew that Rickon did not like to fight as much as him, but he also knew that Rickon fought as good as he did. That fact did not mean that they felt the same. Gerion wanted to know how he was. They had much to discuss, after the war was over. Gerion also wanted to see Jeyne, he wanted to see how his little sister was doing, he knew she and their cousins had stopped a rebellion in the South, he looked forward to know how they had done that. Gerion was very proud of his brother and sister. Right then, it was his turn to do what had to be done to win the war. That had been one of his motivations when he had left Winterfell, the other had been to avenge Galladon.
Gerion had managed to convince his father and uncle to let him go fight in the vanguard, it had been easier than what Gerion had thought. Actually, that war council had been the begining of their whole plan.
They had made camp two weeks before and, during those weeks, they had tried to make a plan to attack the enemy. The enemy had not seemed interested in attacking them, they had been only attacking the Wolfswood. Gerion had wanted to stop it, but there had been nothing they could do. The only option had been to wait. Still, after two weeks, they had decided to attack for if they did not, then they were likely to be attack soon. Therefore, a war council had been held.
In the tent, his father and uncle, Tormund and himself had gathered for the elaboration of their final plan. The map of the battlefield had been dispossed on the table, where they had all been gathering around. Gerion had been a bit anxious, he had wanted to fight in the battle and he had waited to end the war for so long, that he had started to get impatient. He had known that everyone was anxious, which he had found weird because they had been in so many battles, why would they still be nervous?
"We can't wait more time, we have to attack. They'll attack us soon for sure." Tyrion had said.
"What's the plan then?" Tormund had asked.
"We split the vanguard in three, and then the rearguard will be behind us." Jaime had said. He wanted to go to battle as soon as possible, he wanted to avenge his son and to see Brienne and Catelyn and Joan. He wanted to be there for them. However, he would do that in the right way, that was why the plan was so important, because it had to work.
"Maybe we can attack them through all the sides, but we have to do it quietly. Because if they find out, we won't stand a chance." Gerion had said, the enemy might have been focusing their strenght on the Wolfswood, however once they found out they would attack them, then the game might change. No one wanted that.
"They want to finish the Wolfswood first, we can't let them do that." Tyrion had said.
"Why do they want to do that?" Tormund had asked.
"Because the warlocks want Daenerys's dragons. They would do anything to get them, it's their source of power." Tyrion had explained.
"So they are trying to get Drogon and Rhaegal and aunt Dany?" Gerion had asked.
"Yes, I guess so. They've tried before." Tyrion had said.
"That means they'll attack the camp first, which it's bad, because they may not have the numbers." Jaime had said.
"We have to be quick then." Gerion had said.
"Exactly, so battle positions. I'll stay in the vanguard-" Jaime had been saying, when Gerion had seized the oportunity to be able to fight in the vanguard as well,
"I'll stay in the vanguard too." His father had looked at him and had nodded. Gerion had realized that he would let him be in the vanguard. He had never expected it to be so easely, he had expected that he had to come up with very good arguments and that somehow that would be the solution. Gerion had been more surprised than ever.
"Alright. Me, Ger and Tormund stay in the vanguard, we split it in three as we've agreed before." Jaime had said and Tormund and Gerion had nodded.
"I'll stay with you." Tyrion had said.
"You can stay in the rearguard, it's probably the best option." Jaime had said trying to convince him to change his mind.
"I agree with him." Tormund had said. So do I, Gerion had thought, he had not wanted his father in the vanguard, he knew that his father was a great strategist and that he was king, still he did not have much experience when it came to the battlefield and Gerion did not want him to get hurt.
"I am these people's king, I brought them to the fight, if I won't fight to protect the North, why should they?" Tyrion had said seriously. He's right, but..., Gerion had thought confused and worried.
"Dear brother, do you intend to get knock down again?" Jaime had asked. What?, Gerion had thought confused.
"That only happened trice. And it was hardly my fault. I have to do this, Jaime." Tyrion had said.
"You want to fight for your people, I get it. But, you're terrible at fighting, you know that, right?" Tormund had said.
"Thanks a lot. I know that, but I can fight." Tyrion had said.
"Father, I'll stay in the vanguard and I'll represent the throne, I promise. The people know that you're fighting for the North. They saw you fighting when we broke the siege. They'll understand if you comand the rearguard." Gerion had explained trying to convince him.
"I know, but-" Tyrion had been saying, when they had heard a dragon.
"It's settle then. Was that a dragon?" Jaime had said and everyone had gone outside to see what had been happening.
Gerion had been the first to leave the tent and to see Rhaenys and Rhaella. He had run to his cousin as soon as she had landed the dragon and had gotten out of it. When Rhaella had seen him, she had smiled. Gerion had too. He had not seen her for so long and he had been worried about what the warlocks might have done to her, right then she had been there, which had not only meant that she was alright, but also that the others had already arrived.
"Rhaella?" Gerion had asked.
"Ger!" Rhaella had said and had gone to him and hugged him. He had hugged her back and kissed her forehead.
"How the hell did Rhaenys grow up so fast?" Gerion had asked after the hug.
"It's a long story, Ger. Where's uncle Jaime? I have to tell him something." Rhaella had asked.
"He's-" Gerion had been saying, when his father and uncle and Tormund had gotten to where they were,
"I'm here." Jaime had said and Rhaella had gone to him and had said,
"He's alive. Galladon is alive."
"He is alive..." Jaime had said smiling and not believing it.
"How?" Gerion had asked surprised. He's alive, my cousin is alive... Thanks the gods, Gerion had thought happier than ever.
"A priest of the Lord of the Light, Durran. He brought him back." Rhaella had explained.
"Thanks the gods." Tyrion had said while Jaime had been silent for once, tears of joy running down his face.
"Uncle Tyrion? I thought you were in Winterfell." Rhaella had said.
"I was, but I have to be here for my people." Tyrion had said and she had nodded smiling.
"Is aunt here too?" Rhaella had asked.
"No, she is in Winterfell, someone had to stay in the castle. But everyone will be together soon, I hope." Tyrion had said.
"Where is everyone else?" Gerion had asked.
"In trouble. But we have a plan." Rhaella had said and they had gone to the tent again.
"You're Jon's little girl, aren't you?" Tormund had asked once inside.
"I guess I am. You are Tormund Giantsbane, right?" Rhaella had asked.
"Right, little princess." Tormund had said and she had smiled.
"I'm really sorry to interupt, but, Rhaella, where is Jeyne, Gal, Mary, Jen and everyone else?" Gerion had asked concerned.
"Right, we've just arrived atop the Wolfswood camp. They're alright and they are getting ready to battle. I came on Rhaenys. We have a plan." Rhaella had said.
"What's the plan?" Tyrion had asked.
"The warlocks are doing a spell to take force from the dragons. We are going to break the spell. We surround them and then we attack." Rhaella had explained.
"What is the spell?" Jaime had asked.
"We don't know. Ned saw it in a greendream and he saw a book. Uncle Sam brought it to camp apparently. Thomas knows which book it is, so they'll figure it out." Rhaella had said.
"That's great!" Gerion had said. We're all getting back together again, Gerion had thought.
"It is. There is just one problem." Rhaella had said.
"What is it?" Jaime had asked concerned.
"Well, when I was flying over the camp, I saw that Drogon and Rhaegal fell and that everyone who was fighting in there was trapped. The warlocks have them trapped, they had knifes at their throats and swords at their backs, but we still have time. I didn't see Rickon and Bran, though. They must be in the camp." Rhaella had explained.
"I really hope so. Alright, while you attack in the south, we'll attack their camp from here. That way they'll be trapped from both sides." Tyrion had said.
"Do you think you can help with your dragon?" Tormund had asked Rhaella.
"Yes, after I stop the spell, I'll help you." Rhaella had said.
"Good. It's done then." Jaime had said. He wanted more than anything to go to that camp and finish that war once and for all, so did Gerion. Above all, he wanted to see his son again.
"Great. I have to go now." Rhaella had said.
"Wait. Before that, how did Rhaenys grow up so fast?" Gerion had asked again for it did not make sense.
"Alright, short version. The warlocks took me to their temple, where I found Gerion Lannister-" Rhaella had started.
"Uncle Gery is alive?!" Tyrion and Jaime had asked surprised. Gerion Lannister had been more of a father to them than their own father, before he had lost himself in the sea. They could not believe they were going to see him again.
"Yes, they had captured him." Rhaella had continued, I'm going to meet my namesake great-uncle..., Gerion had thought a bit happy, "I started to talk to him, but one night the warlocks took Rhaenys, they were casting a spell to make her grow up. After few more weeks, Jen entered the temple to save me and, in middle of that, she talked to her grandparents..." At that Jaime and Tyrion had frozen, Jenny had talked to her grandparents? To Joanna Lannister and Tywin Lannister? We're fucked, Tyrion and Jaime had thought. I can't wait to know what they said, Gerion had thought. "Finally, when I saw her, we're trying to escape, the warlocks threw a spell at me, but she got in the way, so it hit her. She could get me and Gerion out, but she lost her memory.-"
"She lost what?" Gerion had asked concerned. I can't imagine what's that like. I knew something had happened., Gerion had thought.
"She's fine now. We had to wait a few days before going home, then there was a battle, Gal died and, when Jen saw him dead, everything came back. She got her memory back. We had to go to the ship. In the ship, Cat had the idea of bringing him back, because my father was brought back to life too. So, Durran brought him back. And we made it to KingsLanding." Rhaella had finished. Everyone had been surprised, confused and shocked. But Rhaella had said,
"I really have to go. See you in the battle. Attack when you hear Rhaenys roar and see fire in their camp. That's the signal." Everyone had nodded and she had gone back to Rhaenys and to camp.
"She's definetively Jon's and Dany's daughter..." Tormund had said with a chuckle, after she had left.
"You haven't met Lya yet. They're both their parents' daughters." Tyrion had said and they had chuckled.
"I'm sure you have somethings to talk about. Don't take too long." Tormund had said, they had nodded and he had left the tent.
"Do you think Jen's alright?" Gerion had asked.
"She's alright, Ger. So is Gal. And everyone else. Don't worry." Jaime had said.
"I knew something happened to her, she would never let anything happen to him." Gerion had said.
"That's true." Tyrion had said.
"It is..." Jaime had said. They really do love each other..., Jaime had thought.
"Am I going to meet uncle Gery?" Gerion had asked.
"I can't even believe he is alive." Tyrion had said.
"I've never thought I'd see him again." Jaime had said.
"Do you think he'll recognize you?" Gerion had asked curious. It had felt good to know those things to relieve the tension.
"I hope so, but I don't think he'll recognize Jo." Tyrion had said.
"Why would he recognize aunt?" Gerion had asked confused.
"She was 14, the last time he saw her. Your father was 21 and I was 29." Jaime had said.
"14?" Gerion had asked shocked. He had known his great-uncle had disappeared a long time ago, but not that long.
"Yes. The most important thing is that he's going to meet Joy and little Jaime too." Tyrion had said.
"Exactly. Do you think he knows who died and who's alive?" Jaime had asked a bit concerned.
"I think so. We still have a lot to catch up." Tyrion had said.
"Rhaella said that Jen talk to grandfather and grandmother." Gerion had said, he had had to know something about that.
"If she did, we're fucked." Jaime had said.
"I am, you and Joanna might escape." Tyrion had said.
"From father?" Jaime had asked.
"Yes. I'm not worried about what mother told Jenny. Only what father told her." Tyrion had said.
"We'll have to wait to know. It'll work out fine, I'm sure of it." Gerion had said, Even more so, when we found the book, Gerion had thought.
"Alright. We have to put the army in position." Jaime had said and they had started to leave the tent, when Gerion had called his father.
"Yes, Ger?" His father had said.
"I just wanted to say thank you for trusting me to be in the vanguard." Gerion had said.
"Gerion, I always have and always will trust you. It's just that I'm your father and I worry about you." Tyrion had explained.
"I know. Thank you for everything." Gerion had said.
"You have been dealing with this situation very well, not only in the battlefield, but in Winterfell as well. I'm proud of you, never forget that." Tyrion had said and Gerion had nodded.
"Be careful out there, I trust you, but I don't want you to get hurt. If everything's crumble, run to whoever you see first." Tyrion had said.
"I'm always careful. But I will. Be careful too." Gerion had said.
"I will. You don't have to worry about me." Tyrion had said and Gerion had nodded.
As of then, Gerion was in his horse in the vanguard, thinking about all he would want to talk with his cousins, especially, Marianne. If we survive this, then I'll have to figure out what I'm going to say, Gerion thought looking at the enemy's camp from where he was. Bold was beside him waiting too, the direwolf was full grown by then. A grown up direwolf was a tough beast. Gerion was really happy he had his direwolf by his side. Gerion was impatient, the signal still had not come. He could not see Rhaella's dragon or any dragon, which made him feel a bit uneasy. Suddenly, everything happened all at once. There was a fire in the woods, followed of a great roar. It was the signal. Let's do this, Gerion thought.
"The North remembers! For Winterfell and all of the North!" Gerion yelled and the vanguard charged, followed by the rearguard. Seeing, his son riding to battle, Tyrion thought, That's my son. I hope Rickon and Jeyne are alright too. He was very worried about them. Gerion had been with him for all those months, but not Rickon or Jeyne, he just wanted to know if they were alright.
They started to attack the enemy's camp, they had caught them off guard, still they had men up to fight. Rhaella started to burn the tents to open way for the army to pass through. Gerion, after jumping from his horse, was fighting and fighting, his only instint was to survive and to get to the battlefield to see everyone again. He would do anything for his family. And right then he had the chance to see them again and to end the war that had taken a lot from them lately, therefore he would fight with all he had left, he would fight until his last breath and he knew that they would win, because it was what was right. Because they were threathening their kingdoms and their family.
After a lot of fighting and sweating and even bleeding, all of the enemy's camp was burned or deserted. They marched to the battlefield. When Gerion got to the battlefield and saw his family fighting, for some unknown reason, he smiled. His family was there alive and fighting. Therefore, he yelled,
"Let's win this! For the North." Then he and his troops charged into battle again.
Gerion fought and fought and fought, with all he'd got, at last he was next to his family.
"You're here! Finally!" Rickon said as he was fighting, next to him.
"Finally indeed, little brother. Where's our sister?" Gerion asked as he fought too.
"Look to the left." Rickon said, finishing the closest enemies. Gerion finished fighting the closest enemies too and then the two brothers looked to the left and saw that Jeyne was fighting with a crossbow.
"Jeyne fights now?" Gerion said surprised, going back to the fight.
"Apparently." Rickon said, going back to the fight too. That's my little sis, Gerion thought.
After some time and fighting, Gerion and Marianne were next to each other, fighting too.
"Back to back." Marianne said and Gerion did as she said.
"You don't see me for months... And that's the first thing you say to me?" Gerion said kidding and fighting.
"Well... We're a bit busy right now... Don't you think?" Marianne said fighting. They were fighting back to back, still. They were fighting and at some point they had to split up, while fighting the enemy, in the middle of the fight after managing to kill the closest enemies, their swords clashed, they were almost face to face. Marianne closed the gap between them, whitout moving the swords, and kissed him. He kissed her back, without knowing fully well what was happening. Then the swords sprang apart again and enemies approached.
"Just in case there is no time." Marianne said going back to the fight. She knew she would regret, if the fight went wrong, not having done that.
"Do you want to talk about it? Maybe?" Gerion said going back to the fight again. What the hell was that?, Gerion thought surprised, but smiling.
"Right now? No. After all of this? Maybe." Marianne said. The talks were good, it helped in the fighting.
"You can't just kiss me and then tell me we'll talk later, in the middle of a freaking battle!" Gerion said a bit kidding while bringging his sword down on an enemy's head.
"I can... I did... And we will." Marianne said simply, looking at him.
"Really?" Gerion asked, looking at her too.
"Hey, you two! There's a battle going on around you, there's people dying! Stop fucking arguing and fight! For fuck's sake!" James yelled at them. They looked at him and then at each other and went back to the fighting. There were still too many of the enemy. They had just released the Golden Company.
