Valerie's POV

"I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, but something just came up."

My Mom's executive assistant said as she entered the room with a very horrified expression on her face. After class, I immediately went to MonteCorp just to visit Mom and see if she was okay. Dad already went to New York, he left in a hurry because there was an emergency and he had to be there. My Mom was left in charge with the entire company and that's a lot of pressure and stress placed on her shoulders. Sabrina couldn't make it because she was out with her friends, I decided to stay here and have dinner with my Mom inside her office.

She placed a folder down on my Mom's table and then she sat on the chair right in front of me. She was busy looking at some documents while my Mom stopped eating so she could read what's written on the paper inside the folder. When I stared at them, they looked very serious. I could hear the two of them discussing something about the business, saying there was a problem that needed to be tended urgently. And as the minutes passed between their conversation, my Mom scoffed. The last thing I knew, she was already calling our house maids, commanding them to pack her bags. She was leaving, too.

"Where are you going?" I asked her. Suddenly, everyone in MonteCorp was moving in such rush. Through the glass of my Mom's office, I could see the other workers type intensely on their computers, some were walking around frantically while holding stacks and stacks of paperwork. My Mom's executive assistant was also speaking to someone on the telephone with annoyance in her voice. They seemed so stressed out. "Mom? Is everyone okay? What's wrong?"

"Valerie, I'll explain to you later. I just really need to fix something." My Mom said, looking apologetic. She went back to her table and started searching for something on the drawers, when she finally found this old file she kept, I saw her place it inside one of her suitcases. Then she turned back to her executive assistant, who turned the telephone down in rage and tension. "Lin, book me a flight to New York. I don't care if it's economy, business or first class... Just book one that leaves tonight."

So she was leaving for New York too? Just when I was about to ask my Mom another question, the door of her office opened. It was my Mom's staff, he was carrying my Mom's luggage and then he placed it on the couch of her office. I just sat there, watching my Mom scan through her wallet, then she checked to see her passport and her other valuables. When she placed it back inside her purse, she stood up and then walked towards me. Bringing me into a hug. "I'm so sorry Val... tell Sab I'll go to New York. I will be back with your Dad. Don't worry about the company, the board members will take care of it."

"Mom, I can take you to the airport." I said and showed her my car key. I could see how she looked hesitant, but she knew I was just as persistent as Sabrina, I would never let her leave without having me take her there. In the end, my Mom and I walked out of the building as one of her staffs carried her things and helped me place them in the car. When we were both in, I drove off, not wanting my Mom to miss her flight.

As I brought my car to a halt, I stopped in the middle of the driveway, I wasn't going to take long... I just dropped her off and then parked my car to the side. The airport staff rushed and made sure they'd serve my Mom. We were always treated like this on airports, everyone was just so kind and they'd always make sure we're comfortable. My Mom sat on one of the chairs as she waited for her flight, I didn't leave yet, I wanted to make sure that she was fine.

The flight announcements started to spread around the airport as it flashed on the huge screens and my Mom was being aided by the staff while I watched her walking away. That's it, I was alone at home with Sabrina again, and for sure my Mom would be gone for weeks, just like my Dad. I turned away and I slowly walked back to where I parked my car, and then I received a text from Mom, she said she was fine and that she would miss me and Sabrina.
