Valerie's POV

"Why are you here?"

He was wearing a dark blue dress shirt and his black slacks, his style never changed throughout the years, he still looked like the same Tyler I knew before. I could feel my stomach curling inside of me, I just couldn't shake that feeling every time I know he's around. A lot of things have changed within the years of being away, there were only instances where some moments feel exactly the same as before, but the evident changes between us made me think that I just couldn't bring myself to look at him the same way. That I can't continue treating the past events like they didn't happen at all.

I placed my folder down on my desk as I scanned through the piles of paperwork there, arranging them by correct order, and maybe this was my way of avoiding his stares. Tyler sat on the chair in front of me, my desk in between the two of us, he had a smug look on his face as he sat there with his arms folded in front of his chest. He gave me an amused grin when I stared at his face intently, looking at him while trying my best to intimidate him. I was somehow questioning his reasons for booking an appointment, if there's anyone he should talk to, it's my Dad, not me.

"Is this how you talk to your business partners?" He says with a smirk on his face, I shifted my seat a little as I was taken aback by what he said. He placed a white folder on my desk, on top of the pile I made earlier. I looked down on it and I immediately opened to check what it was about, but it was simply paperwork about the projects he planned with my Dad. It was all about the business, he could've just handed this to my assistant, he honestly didn't need to book an appointment. Or he should've just told my Dad about this, for sure they would have a better discussion about this. "I need your signature for the agreement so my team and I can start on the first part as soon as possible."

"Okay," I said before I stood up so I could lead him towards the exit, but he didn't even move, he stayed seated on the chair while his arms was still folded. I sighed and walked back to my seat so I could face him, I raised a brow at him, expecting him to leave. I shook my head and signed the documents, checking each page to see if I missed any. When I was certain that everything was cleared, I handed it straight to him so he could get going, I had a busy day ahead and my assistant is waiting for me outside. "Is there anything else you need tending to? You know I have a lot of work to do Mister Valdez."

"I'm here to apologize." After hearing that, I looked at him while trying to stop any emotion to show on my face, I averted my gaze on the piles of paperwork and documents as I started to rearrange them. I didn't say anything to him, I couldn't even look at him straight in the eyes anymore. I heard him clear his throat so I looked at him, thinking that he finally got my signal, that he should just leave. But then, Tyler didn't leave. "For what happened last night... and in the past. I'm sorry Val, I should have told you but I was a coward. I was scared that you would think the same way, that I'm nothing but broken pieces who's scared to man up. I should have told you the truth, the truth about—"

"Miss Valerie Monteverde, an important client is waiting for you in the boardroom." Tyler got cut off when someone barged in, it was my executive assistant who's carrying a laptop on her right arm. I looked up and nodded, then I prepared my things and carried my bag. Tyler looked at me with a hint of disappointment in his eyes. "Be there as soon as possible, you have two other meetings after this one. I told you, it's a busy day."

"Got it. Melissa, please put these folders on the boardroom desk. I'll give it to the investor." I gave her a small smile and she moved her stare upon Tyler, a sign that she's asking me about him. I nodded and she fixed her crooked glasses for a bit before going out of my office. "I'm sorry to cut this meeting short Mister Valdez, I have an urgent appointment. If you have any other concerns, just message my assistant or my Dad. Thank you, I'll go ahead."
