NICO
Reyna and Hazel arrived an hour ago. Now we're all getting ready. None of us are quite sure how long we'll be gone for.
I've been trying to find some armour that'd fit Will, but none of it seems to fit so far.
'This one's fine.' He says, after I take it off.
'It's loose. It'd weigh you down, and leave you vulnerable here.' I say touching his sides.
'I thought I wasn't meant to be fighting.' He says.
'You're not. But if worst comes to worst, then I want you to be as safe as possible.' I say, 'let's try this one.'
I put another one over his head and it seems to fit okay.
'This feels tight.' He says.
'It's supposed to.' I say, 'you'll be safer.'
'I don't understand how you wear this all the time.' He says, trying to move his shoulders about.
'I don't. I hardly wear it at all. But I can fight, and you can't.' I say.
'So I'm going to be the only one wearing armour?' He asks.
'Reyna does. But she's a lot more practical than the rest of us.' I say.
'You should wear armour.'
'It weighs me down. The thing that gives me the upper hand is speed. If I wear armour I'm not as quick.' I explain, 'but you're not quick. You're quite slow, actually.'
'Hey!' He argues.
'It's a fact. You're not a fighter, and that's fine. I actually kind of prefer it. It's much more attractive.' I say.
'Well if you just taught me to fight, maybe you wouldn't have to worry about me so much.'
'Worrying about each other is the foundation of our relationship. I almost die and you save me. And vice versa.' I say.
'Is this relationship maybe a little codependent?' He asks, his arms around my waist.
'This is the healthiest relationship I've ever been in.' I say.
'It's the only relationship.' He corrects me.
'Well that's beside the point.' I say, kissing him, 'and I'll teach you to fight once this is all over.'
'Promise?' He asks.
'Sure.' I say.
