I shouldn't be

You were sitting at the bus stop, it was a chilly Monday morning. Midway through first semester and you had gotten used to how different high school was.

You had put in your earphones to drown out the busy highway and the chatter of the people at the stop, you felt a tall figure towering behind you, covering the rising sun that was hitting the back of your neck giving you warmth. A shiver up your spine and you glimpsed at the shadow trying to get an idea of who it might be, slowly you turn your head, emotionless with a resting bitch face.

"hey"

he says with a small quiver at the end of the left side of his mouth, eyes facing downwards towards yours and quickly looking away up at the sun.

"oh.. hi" you say monotoned,

"good thing the suns coming up, I forgot my jacket"

Akaashi says as he placed his hand horizontally on his forehead trying to block too much sunlight trying to hit his bright teal eyes.

You and Akaashi have been friends for years ever since start of middle school but every time you were with him, a feeling of happiness and enjoyment filled you but you couldn't show it. You were never the one to express your feelings easily unless it was laughter.

Feelings rather than friendship towards something was not your forte. You couldn't help but blush as you glanced towards his face, eyes glistening and his skin so smooth.

I just like hanging out with him cause he's my best friend

but why can't you leave my mind even when your not around me

Our friendship must be that strong than

You thought

"you okay, you look stressed" Akaashi asked looking at you with your eyebrows furrowed and pointer finger poking at your bottom lip. It was a habit of yours whenever you were overthinking.

"Oh yeah, I'm just stressing over the biology exam today"

It wasn't all a lie since you were a tad worried. You always worried about school since thats all you ever did, relationships and drama wasn't something that happen to you. Even though you enjoyed hearing about it, no one has ever liked you romantically and you understood why.

The times people confessed to you were mostly during elementary and you felt as they were pity crushes. Your looks were average or even below, you had darker skin from your other classmates, your eyes dark almost black and cheeks chubby even though your physique was skinny.

Halfway through middle school you changed, you stopped trying to seek for a guy to like you, you gave up on trying to look good and thought that if you filled your time up with school work and succeeding that the emptiness and insecurities you felt would be pushed away, forgotten. But you were wrong.

It didn't seem that way whenever you were with Akaashi, you wanted to look cute for him, you wanted him to think you were pretty but you knew deep down a guy that good looking would never go for you.

You and Akaashi both sitting next to each other on the bus, while getting off the stop you notice Akaashi wasn't walking beside you anymore, you felt a sense of loneliness even.

You could hear loud chatters, as you turn to see what it was, Akaashi was there with his friends, Bokuto and Miya from his volleyball team. You knew people but people never really knew you. It was hard to make new friends because you never seemed to start up conversations. You felt like they were annoyed if you were to speak to them first.
