Twenty four hours seemed like forever to me, while awaiting for the DNA result. I didn't know what I hoped the result be, but deep inside I thought I already knew what the result would be and that scared me. I felt like nothing that I knew was true anymore, no one that I knew was trust worthy. I felt so lost and didn't know where to go. Some part of me would like to know what the result of that DNA test would be but another part me wasn't ready to accept the truth. Today was the second day I called in sick. I couldn't face Deena, I wasn't ready yet, at least not right now.
Usually when I was confused and didn't know what to do, I turned to my mother. She had been my life saviour, my anchor and the only one I could trust. But it was all gone now. I didn't have anywhere to turn to, I was on my own. All of a sudden a thought came to my mind. I took my phone and turned it off. I went to my bedroom and packed some of my clothes into my travel bag, grabbed my clutch and headed out of the apartment. After locking the door, I went to call a cab downstairs and gave the driver an address for him to take me to.
It took an hour before I reached my destination and found myself standing in front of his door. I rang the bell 5 times before finally the door opened. And I saw a face of an unfamiliar model material looking woman.
"Who the fuck are you?" The woman asked me rudely while standing in front of me with a surprised face. She was wearing an oversize white shirt, which was quite transparent and nothing else.
I was gonna answer before a familiar voice answered for me, "Get out of my house, nobody talks to my wife that way."
The woman then turned around, surprised by the answer, "wife? You're married? "
"Sure I am, " he said smugly.
"I don't see any ring on your finger and no picture of a woman in your house. Is this one of your way to get rid of me after what we did last night? You know, I'm not a one night stand material."
"We had a fight so I got rid of everything to remind me of her. But now we're patching things up so I'm getting rid of you. Now, get your stuff and get the fuck out of my house." He turned around after saying that and disappeared inside his house. The woman, obviously furious, went in without closing the door so I came inside and placed my bag on the floor and stood in what seemed to be living room, although clothes were scattered around in there like the ghost had been ransacked. Not long after, the woman came back, now with pants on and her own t-shirt. She slammed the door on her way out without saying anything else.
"Good thing you were here. I was just thinking of the best way to get rid of her, that's why I said you were my wife in front of her. Sex was good but she talks a lot." He came and gave me a hug.
Jonah Adamson was Gary's oldest son. He was 5 years older than me. I was always closer to him than his younger brother despite him being the same age as me. Growing up, I always thought of him as my brother and he really put himself that way for me, he protected me and cared for me the way a brother would. Since young, he was never interested in his father's business, he had always wanted to be an artist and he was good at it. I still had three of his paintings he gave me as my birthday gift long ago. When Gary died, he sold his share of the restaurant to my mother and moved out of the suburbs and gave me his address once he had a place to stay. He used to tell me that I could always visit him.
"Maybe you should stop your sleeping around habit, find a woman who you don't wanna kick out the next morning," I told him. He had always been a womanizer even back then. Well, those women couldn't help it. Jonah was a handsome man, with jet black hair which he grew long and always tied up in a bun, a 4 o'clock shadow beard and a lean and tall frame.
"They helped me sleep well," he told me with a wink. He was always so cheeky.
He then realize my travel bag on the floor next to me then he looked at me and smiled, "You came for a slumber party?"
