Jungkook woke up with his phone ringing and wrestled with the bedside table to find it. "Who is it?" His boyfriend, Jin's raspy voice asked the boy, who squinted his eyes to look at his mother's name.
"Eomma," Jungkook replied hastily, picking up the call. Never had his mother ever called the boy so early in the morning, so he felt something was wrong.
"How are you, Jungkook?" Mrs. Jeon asked, urgency in her voice.
Jungkook's eyes shot open, and his heart hammered inside his chest. "I am good. What happened? Is everything good at home?" He asked and Jin opened his eyes a little.
"Everything's good, honey. But you didn't pick up your phone last night. You never did that before, and I was having wrong thoughts in my mind." Mrs. Jeon implored in a little anger and a little worry.
Jungkook remembered the last careless, drunk, and naked night with his older boyfriend. "Sorry Eomma, I was just busy with work that I returned late last night," the boy made an excuse. "Then I had to cook, and I slept early as I was too tired."
"But yesterday was Saturday. You only have five days working a week. Isn't it?" The lady argued.
"That's the thing. We have an upcoming audit coming, so I had to go for extra work. My manager called me in." Jungkook quickly made up a story.
"Oh!" Mrs. Jeon believed her son. She had no reason to not. "How is it going with your roommates? Are you friends with them now?" She asked, not helping but worry as the boy had moved to Seoul just three months ago, and he was struggling to make friends, being the introverted and mellow person that he was.
Jungkook looked at Jin, "I am, Eomma. Don't worry about me."
Jin pulled Jungkook closer and kissed his neck. "Okay, honey. Go back to sleep and ask for money if you need it, hm?" The mother asked. Jungkook was just an intern in the company while he pursued his graduation, and he didn't get paid much.
"And don't forget to text us that you are okay every night. We worry."
"I will... I love you, Eomma. I will call you later in the evening."
"What happened?" Jin groaned.
"She must have called me last night, and we didn't hear the phone ring." Jungkook pouted.
"Go back to sleep," Jin asked Jungkook as he grabbed his waist.
"I can't go back to sleep now. I will go make us something to eat." Jungkook told the man, who smiled and pecked the younger's forehead before letting him go.
Jungkook swayed to the bathroom for his morning routine and came out after brushing his teeth. He went straight to the kitchen and decided to make pancakes, even though his head was hurting due to a hangover, he wanted to make something nice for Jin on the holiday.
On finishing up in the kitchen, he soon walked out and stepped into the room with a tray that had a plate stacked with fluffy, jiggly, and warm pancakes accompanied by a porcelain beaker-filled honey. He had cut bananas into small chunks that had been decorated on and around the plate.
"Hyung, breakfast is ready." he put the small table on the bed and Jin sat up.
"Thanks, Jungkook." Jin quickly jumped off the bed and ran to brush his teeth.
They soon sat on the bed to eat. Jungkook looked around the room and felt content. "I am already loving that we bought the new fridge." He said felicitously as he felt the cold banana melt in his mouth along with warm honey.
He was proud of the first appliance he had bought. Even though it wasn't big or very expensive, it was enough to cater to two people. He was earning a bare minimum. Jin's older brother was a scientist, who sent money to him. Sometimes, the man would take freelancing jobs, but those didn't pay him much. Nonetheless, they did divide the finances equally. "We will buy the rest of the furniture slowly too. As of now, the bed will do." Jin affirmed.
"Yeah!" Jungkook sighed dreamily at the thought of putting his home together with his own budgeted money, little by little.
When he moved to Seoul, his mother was against it, but his father supported his decision. He was in the last year of his Engineering and he was required to make an app for his final year college project. He had applied to many companies in Busan and Seoul, but his inclination was to move out of the house, so he would get to meet his older boyfriend, who was a Ph.D. senior.
Jungkook met Jin through the Bumble app when he was going through a tough time as a teenager after his first breakup. Jin was a wise, mature man who always gave the best advice to little Jungkook. Over years, they exchanged their contact numbers. For two years, they maintained communication but lost contact when Jungkook started dating a boy.
His luck had been cursed when it came to love in life. His first boyfriend was from middle school, who caused their relationship to end after he became too possessive and started suffocating Jungkook. His next relationship wasn't really a serious one. Jungkook had a weird fixation on meeting people online due to his introverted nature. He lost his virginity to a guy he met through a dating site. He regretted it on most days, but he couldn't change that.
During his breakups and rebound, Jin was consistently there as a listening ear, but as they chatted more, they grew fond of each other and they knew that they would be perfect for each other. Sure, Jin was five years older than 20-year-old Jungkook, but that didn't cause any issues in their relationship. Jungkook thought they were more than alike in nature. "What are you thinking, Jungkook?" The older asked when the boy seemed lost.
"I am thinking about us," Jungkook replied while looking at Jin.
"Us?" Jin chuckled. "What about us?"
"Just a month ago, we decided to stay together, and here we are now. Actually staying together. And we already own a fridge."
"And we will buy more. Your internship will be over in two months and you will get a job for better money and my Ph.D. will be done too. I will get a job and we will have more money coming in." Jin implied, looking at the boy's lips.
"What if we break up someday? How will we divide our things?" Jungkook suddenly asked cheekily.
"Oh! We are already thinking about that, huh?" Jin tickled Jungkook's ribs, and the boy burst out laughing, falling here and there on the bed and desperately trying to pull Jin's hand away.
