"I am talking about Park 97 on Yeogsun, not on Hongnam," Jungkook instructed the delivery boy.
"Okay, sir. I will be there in ten minutes."
"Thank you." Jungkook disconnected the call happily and began to wind up his bag.
Today was payday and he was happy to celebrate it with some food. Jin's favorite blueberry cake, a movie, some fried chicken, and beer would make his night. "Hey, kiddo!" His manager called him and he turned to flash a smile at her.
"Yes, ma'am?" He asked, putting the bag back down on the desk.
"It's quite late. I am so sorry to keep you in the office until such late hours, Jungkook. I am also leaving now, so come with me. I will drop you." The nice lady offered and Jungkook shook his head with a smile.
"It's no problem, ma'am. I get paid for my work." He assured.
Mrs. Sago couldn't help but feel worried for the boy as she looked at his pale skin. "Sure, but you worked overtime. I wish they paid interns for overtime, but there is no such policy. I feel like it is not justified for you. From tomorrow, you should ask Nieumin to stay back, and you should leave on time." She stated strictly.
When Jungkook joined the company, he was very naive, interning here to finish his college project, and Mrs. Sago knew many would try and exploit the student. As she was looking at him now, she knew that nothing had changed. "It's okay for me, ma'am. If I can't manage, I will come to you for help." Jungkook told her and she kept her glance at the hardworking kid.
"Are you eating well, Jungkook? You seem very pale. Are you feeling alright?" The sudden question about health caught Jungkook off-guard.
"I am fine," he replied, looking at his palms to check if he really was that pale to be noticed and pointed at.
"You don't have to be scared, okay? If you want to go to the doctor, come to me. I will send my driver with you. But you should take care. When you came here for the interview with your mother, she made me promise that I look after you and inform her if you weren't okay." Mrs. Sago chuckled.
"Do you still have her number?" Jungkook asked, flabbergasted.
"Of course, I have!" The manager replied and pointed at the bag so Jungkook takes it and leave with her.
On the way to his house, he kept thinking about his pale skin, but just as he reached home, he forgot all about it and thanked the senior for dropping him off before he hopped his way to his floor. He opened the door with a wide grin and saw Jin busy with his work. "Hyung! I am home." He announced to the older, but the man gave him no attention.
Jungkook knew instantly from the look on Jin's face that it was one of those days where Jin was worried about finances, or perhaps, he had a spat with his older brother. Jin's brother sent money to him, but he also had their mother and father to take care of. Sometimes, the money wasn't just enough.
Jungkook slowly walked towards the table and put his bag on it. With the excitement dousing down, he stepped blithely towards the man. "What is it, Hyung?" He asked in a low voice.
"Nothing. Just stressed about the upcoming exams." Jin replied without sparing a glance at the boy.
Jungkook attempted to catch Jin's attention by putting his head on his lap, but the man only itched and grimaced a frown. "I want to be alone." He told Jungkook and the boy gulped before he scurried to sit at the edge of the bed, silently.
He hated feeling this way. He would often come home, all excited, only to get drained of all happiness. He was the youngest kid of the middle-class family, but no one ever treated him anything less than he deserved. The boy was never yelled at, but Jin did it at times. Inwardly, he was quite scared of Jin's mood swings and his anger.
He would cry, but then Jin would apologize, and it would all be okay. Sometimes, Jungkook even debated if their relationship turned out to be what he had imagined. They felt strong attraction and affection towards each other when they were just chatting buddies, texting online, and having fun. But living together was an eye-opener. He got to know many things about Jin that he never knew before.
He truly was innocent and had limited knowledge of the outside world. Aside from the mood swings, Jin had social anxiety issues. He wouldn't step out of the house, keep Jungkook inside too, whenever possible. They spent weekends staying in, eating in, and fucking at all times. Jungkook wanted to support his boyfriend in his worse, at cost of his seemingly deteriorating health too, as it was pointed out to him. Perhaps the gloomy environment in the house and overthinking were affecting him more than he perceived.
It wasn't like he didn't think about the demerits of living together right after they moved in together. He knew their decision to stay together was very rushed. If he was to live as a paying guest in a furnished apartment, he wouldn't have to buy the furniture. But living independently cost him all his money.
Even though this wasn't the issue for the kind boy. The thing which hurt him the most was that Jin still never truly acknowledged that he did put in the effort, although little, he did all he could. All things considered, having someone to come home to gave Jungkook the best feeling in the world. It made him feel safe.
Freshening up, he decided to go out for a stroll. He was sitting on the bench when he received the cake delivery which he had ordered earlier. Putting the box aside, he started thinking about what was really wrong with Jin and how long would it take for him to be okay again.
It didn't take long and he got Jin's call after about twenty minutes. "Where are you, baby?"
"I am sitting in the society park, Hyung." The boy replied, forgetting his predicaments.
"Come back, I miss you."
And just like that, Jungkook plucked out all the negative thoughts from his mind and threw them in the trash. In the end, money was never a priority for him, but love was. Happily, he picked up the cake box from the bench where he had sat and walked inside the building to have a movie night.
This was how it always was. Even with a few alarms and red flags, Jungkook didn't have it in him to think about all this at length, feeling afraid that if he did, he would find out that Jin wasn't right for him.
There was also the fear that if he talked about his feelings, Jin would leave him all alone. He didn't want to end up alone in an entirely new city with no one to care about him. Moreover, he had feelings for the man, and it wasn't easy to think of ending the relationship when they had just started.
