Maia’s POV
It’s a tradition we do every time I visit. Me, dad, mom, and Charlie all go down to the river. I could stay days down by it. We wake up at 6 AM to catch the early thrill. Mom comes in my room and wakes me up.
“C’mon early bird, we gotta get down to the river!”
“Give me a second I have to get dressed” I say
“Hurry your brother can’t wait!”
“Ill meet you down there” I say quickly jumping out of bed.
I throw off my shirt and bra and grab my bikini top. After tying it I slip off my pants and underwear and slip the bikini bottom on. I grab my towel and my phone and walk out the back door. I walk down the gravel road till I make it to the river. My dad is already in the water and mom is spreading sunscreen all over my little brothers back.
“Hurry mom, I want to get in!” Charlie says filled with excitement
“Slow down buddy wait for me to get my sunscreen!” I say shouting down the hill to the river. I run down as fast as I can before Charlie loses it and can’t wait any longer. My mom smears the freezing sunscreen onto my skin.
“Okay go ahead, jump in.” Mom says
“3...2...1!” Me and Charlie say at the same time.
We charged for the water until we leaped like it was for our dear life. The water was perfect. Not too cold, nor too hot. Water drenched my skin. I sunk to the bottom of the river. I pushed off from the muddy bottom and shot up. I gasped for air when I finally made it to the top. I glanced at Charlie and smiled
“AGAIN!” he screamed
We climbed out of the river and ran over to our mom. Me and Charlie rung out our hair on top of our mom and shook our heads splattering the water from our hair until she was soaked from the water that we just jumped into.
“Hey!” she said now drenched in water
“C’mon mom jump in with us!” Charlie spoke
“Yeah mom jump in with us!” I say mocking my little brother.
“Fine” she said lining up next to us.
“3...2...1!”
At this moment I didn’t want to change anything.
Hours after hanging around in the water we decided we’ve had enough. I grabbed my towel and dried my hair. I wrapped myself up, slipped on my shoes, and grabbed my phone. Me and my family all walked with each other back to the house. As we walked I went on Instagram to check what everyone back in LA was doing. I saw a picture on Instagram that David had posted. It read ‘Dinner Date with @ashleyargota!’. I couldn’t even look at the picture. The caption had already broke me enough. I tried to keep walking to the house but my legs had almost stopped working. It hurt too much.
“Honey, you coming?” My mom said looking back
“Yeah, mom just give me a second”
“Okay we are gonna keep walking. Don’t be too long, lunch will be ready in 15 minutes”
“Okay mom.”
I watched my family walk home while I kept standing without moving. A tree stump stood next to where I was. I walked over to it and took a seat. I tried to not let it control me. I just couldn’t hold it in though. Tears flooded my eyes. I sat on that stump for 20 minutes until I was too dehydrated to cry anymore. I stood up and started to walk back home. I opened back to Instagram. Went to David’s photo and clicked on comment. I typed ‘You two are so cute! Have a great time!’ then clicked send. I wish people knew that the comment wasn’t the truth. At least I wish David knew.
