A/N: Do you like this story? I've been focusing on The Partner but will start writing more for this story if so.

Walking up to the tall red brick building I felt my palms begin to sweat in anticipation for what Coach Kelly had called me in to a meeting for.

Obviously I had my hopes up but you never know when it comes to college soccer.

Practice had ended 30 minutes ago and I had spent the entire time stressing out.

Rounding the corner I entered the tall glass doors.

The cold breeze from the A/C was a welcomed feeling.

The 100+ degree heat was definitely a killer for training or just in general really.

Having been brought up in Texas I was used to the heat unlike some of my teammates who are from northern states and tend to take a while to adjust.

Some even return to campus early in hopes of acclimating to the heat prior to preseason as we aren't really given the benefit of the doubt.

Only the so-called sharks prevail and make the first 11.

Finally, I found myself outside of Coaches office.

Taking a couple deep breaths I knocked on the door and waited for a muffled, "come in".

Opening the door I greeted the older woman with a polite yet nervous smile.

She was sitting down typing away on her laptop for the first couple seconds until she looked up and gestured for me to take a seat.

"It's so good to be back at soccer. I hate summer breaks," she lightly commented to relieve some of my tension.

It did the job as I found myself laughing, "training by myself is definitely not as fun."

"What type of training did you do? The regime?" Coach queried.

Each summer our players are given workout regimes that we are strongly advised to follow in order to pass our preseason tests.

"Yes and I trained four times a week with my personal trainer to build on my reaction times and speed," I replied proudly.

"I don't think I've seen someone work quite as hard as you do," she laughed.

Feeling my confidence increase, "Just trying to hold on to my starting spot," I tried to pry a reaction to test the waters.

Laughing loudly at my not so sly comment, "Oh you're doing more than that," she implied.

Shifting slightly on my seat I tried not to build my hopes up too much.

Clearing her throat she continued, "Due to your hard work and leadership skills the coaching staff and I agree that you would be the perfect person to take over the Captaincy."

Trying not to get too giddy I smiled broadly, "I would gladly accept."

She matched my smile, "I'm excited to see you lead the team."

"It's a dream come true! i won't let you down," I reassured.

"I have the upmost faith in you. As do the rest of the coaches. Let's get the chip this year, huh," she playfully commented.

"We've got this!" I confidently replied.

"Great, we will be making the announcement tomorrow at practice so be ready for a speech."

Shit.

"Of course.....Have a great night," i finally replied noticing that it was the end of the conversation.
