So.. There I was, sitting in that uncomfortable airport chair for the past 3 hours. My flight was postponed due to the snow storm in Boston. Yeah, even though it doesn't snow in California, this fucking snow ruins everything.
My family left an hour ago and I was already planning on running back to them. Moving to the other side of the country all alone is definitely something to be scared of. But at least I'm not ALL alone, a friend of mine moved to Boston last year to go to college too, and now we're are going to share a dorm on the campus. I'm pretty excited to be honest. So, in the meantime, let me tell you a little more about myself.
First of all, my name is Amber, but my friends call me Am. So, when this hole love story started I was 21 and, let me tell you, it's still going. But let's start from the beginning.
I dated a guy for a year and a half, but when I got the letter and found out I had gotten in, I broke up with him. Yeah, you must be thinking I did it because of the distance and long distance relationships doesn't usually work, BUT it has nothing to do with the distance. I did it because I knew that in Boston I would meet a lot of hot guys and I would wanna go to a lot of frat parties, and I didn't want to be held back because of a guy who's all the way down in California. He was sweet and gentle and funny and of course we could make it work, I mean, I could if I wanted to, but that's the problem, I didn't want to. So.. We broke up. He was really upset and he even cried, that broke my heart, but I was determined and I would not go back on my decision. And that was it.So, besides this hole thing with my boyfriend, I had a family to worry about too. My mom and my dad are super supportives and there's my little sister too, who cried almost every day since I got the letter 'cause she didn't want me to go, and, of course, there's Thor, my big guy, I really wish I could take him with me to Boston, but the school doesn't allow us to have pets in the dorms. And that's pretty much all I left behind to go chase my dream.
So, let's continue with the beginning of my trouble.A few hours later it was finally time to go. I texted my mom to tell her I was going, just like I promised I would, and then I boarded the plane. The flight was fine, I slept the whole time, and when we finally landed in Boston I texted my friend to let her know I had arrived so she could pick me up. The storm was getting pretty ugly and she texted me saying she was going to wait for it to settle down.
Great! I was tired, hungry and fucking freezing, I knew I was gonna suffer from the cold, but I wasn't expecting it to be on the first day I got in Boston. I still hadn't had the time to buy clothes for the actual cold and I was planning to do it when I got in the city, because I only had one jacket, which I was already wearing. Yeah, I came in the middle of a snow storm with no coats, not even a single one. But, come on, I used to live in California, where there's a sun for which person of the city. I had a hundred pairs of bikinis and only two jackets, which were already very old and worn, that's why I only bought one and saved money to come, precisely because I was going to buy new coats and jackets as soon as I arrived in Boston, and with this storm I was gonna have to wait for the stores to open again.
So, since Ava would take longer than expected to pick me up, I got settled on the airport, put my bags and my suitcase on the chair next to me and opened my book. I was finishing, for the second time, The Great Gatsby, it's definitely my favorite book since I was seventeen."So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." I heard a male voice quoting a phrase from my book. I looked around and saw the finest looking guy staring at me with his blue eyes and his soft smile, so, I smiled back.
"The Great Gatsby" I said, impressed.
"Precisely" He held out his hand for me "Drew"
"Amber" I introduced myself, shaking his hand "Nice to meet you"
"The pleasure is all mine" He smiled "That's a great book you have in your hand"
"So, you are also a fan of 20th century literature, I see"
"I sure am" He stared at me "I wouldn't took you for a fan" He said, analyzing me and I opened my eyes wide.
"Wow, you know me for less than two minutes and you're already making assumptions? Not smooth AT ALL" I looked back at my book and he chuckled.
"I'm sorry. Habits.. That's sort of what I do for a living" He said, trying to get the conversation going.
"You judge people for living?" I said and he laughed.
"Not exactly" I chuckled with his answer.
"So, what do you think of me after you analysis."
"Well, you're definitely not from around here" He said looking at me from head to toe
"And why is that?"
"You're too tanned, we don't have too much sun on this side of the country, that's why Boston citizens are so pale" He said confidently and I laughed.
"Yeah, you got that right. What else?" He kept looking at me.
"I see you're here for college and I'm guessing maybe Law school."
"Law school?" I asked surprised "I didn't think I looked like a law student"
"Is that a bad thing?"
"Of course not, they're all so well dressed and good looking, that's actually kind of a compliment" I said grateful and he chuckled "What else?"
"What do you say about getting a coffee and I try and guess something else about you?"
"Actually.. hmm.." I stuttered.
"It's just a coffee" He said insistently and I stared at him in silence, wondering if that was a good idea.
"Ok, one coffee and that's it" I put my book inside my bag "Just because I'm freezing and my friend is gonna take longer than I expected" He smiled.
"Ok, one coffee it is" We got up and headed to the closest cafeteria inside the airport.
"So, how did you figured I'm here for college?" I asked after we ordered our coffee.
"You had a flier of the Boston University falling out of your purse and with that much baggage, unless you're a very curious tourist, you could only be moving here for college" I looked at him surprised.
"You sure are very observant"
"Guilty" We chuckled.
"And what are you here for?"
"Actually I'm not coming, I'm leaving"
"Oh, so, let me guess.. Running away from college" He laughed.
"I wish. Actually I'm heading to a conference in LA.""WOW" I thought to myself.
"That's pretty cool" I said, trying not to look so impressed by him "Running away from the cold then. Smart." He chuckled.
"Yeah, I'm not into the freezing vibe of the Boston winter" He said playfully and I chuckled.
"Tell me about it. So.. You go to Boston University to?"
"Yeah.. Kinda" He rugged his neck.
"What is that suppose to mean?" I asked confused and heard my fone ringing. "Excuse me." I got up and picked it up.×Phone call×
"Where are you?" Ava asked over the phone.
"At the airport" She exhaled.
"No shit! I'm where you said you were. I found your stuff"
"Alright. I'm on my way, don't get away from my stuff."
"Oh, now you're worried about your stuff? You left it all here, alone."
"I know, I just came to the cafeteria to get a coffee" I said explaning myself.
"Okay, I'm waiting for you here. And hurry, I'm cold."
"Oh, you're cold? I'm fucking freezing."
"It's not my fault, I don't control the fucking weather" She yelled and I laughed.
"I'm coming"
"Okay, bu-bye""Wow, you two really love each other huh?" He joked about the way we talked to each other.
"Yeah.. you heard it?" I asked embarassed.
"She doesn't speak very low" I laughed and picked my walled inside my purse to give him the money for the coffee, but he stopped me by putting a hand on my arm.
"It's on me"
"Really? I mean.. It's just a coffee" I insisted.
"Exactly, it's just a coffee" I smiled.
"Thank you"
"But if you wanna catch dinner sometime.." He suggested and I just smiled.
"See you around, Drew" I said, putting my purse on my shoulder.
"Oh.. I hope so" He smiled and I walked away, heading back to where I had left my stuff.
