before i start: this talk about the film dunkirk is a good thing. don't worry, i'd never hate on christopher nolan's movie because he's my favorite director of all time.
in my (personal) opinion, i think this one of nolan's most underrated films next to memento and batman begins.
what i absolutely love about this film is that there's little dialogue. with the little dialogue this movie has, the power of the music and emotional tone takes over the suspense. being a war movie, and hard hitting film emotional wise, i love the suspense of the film.
the sound and film editing of this movie is INCREDIBLE. the sound of the plane engines, the booming of the explosions, it all comes together. dunkirk definitely deserved to win film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing.
however, the thing is that i think this film should have won best picture and best cinematography.
don't get me wrong, the shape of water was great, but this movie deserved the best picture award. dunkirk is a powerful movie that received a lot of attention.
christopher nolan really went out of his comfort zone with dunkirk. since he's really more of the action/thriller and science fiction driven director, he did a great job with dunkirk considering this was his first war movie.
the cinematography in this movie? SO VISUALLY PLEASING. it drives me insane that dunkirk didn't win best cinematography, although i already knew that it would lose to blade runner 2049.
yeah, that's my thought. this is my second favorite war movie, and is honestly great. if you haven't seen dunkirk, you should!! it's not as bloody and gory as saving private ryan and 1917, but it's definitely worth the watch.
love you all. ❤
