I woke up, panting uncontrollably. I could feel my entire body dripping in sweat as I heard footsteps outside my door. I grabbed the sheets off my bed and clutched them tightly. Who could that possibly be?
The door clicked open as a boy, about my age, peeped his head through the crack. "Are you okay?" He asked, obviously annoyed.
"I'm fine," I brushed down my ratted hair with my fingers. "Nightmare?" The boy asked as he carefully closed my bedroom door behind him.
I nodded and closed my eyes, "you must be Cindy," he looked over at me.
"That's me." "I-I'm Carl," he stuttered. "Nice to meet you," I mumbled as he sat on the edge of my bed.
The moonlight shone on his eyes as he looked over at me, crystal blue eyes. Just like Rick's? No. This cannot be his son.
"So, are you here alone?" I asked. "No, my dad basically runs this group." He chuckled.
Damn it.
Rick.
"Oh, nice." "Yeah. So, where are your parents," he urged. "Oh, mine are.." My eyes grew watery, "they're gone."
His once pale skin, grew even paler at the mention of my dead parents.
"Oh," was all he could say.
"I'm so sorry." "It's okay."Then we sat in silence for a bit, just staring at each other.
"Why don't you try going back to sleep?" Carl smiled, standing up from my bed. "I guess so," I whispered as I lay my head back down onto my pillow.
"Goodnight, Cindy."
"Goodnight, Carl."The Next Morning
I sat up, quietly but slowly. I didn't want to wake anyone, after all. It was my first official day at this...camp, I assumed.
I walked down a flight of stairs before reaching some of the group. "Good," the grey haired woman looked up at me, "you're awake." I nodded and walked towards her. "Are you ready for today?" She sighed as she placed her hands on her hips. I nodded once more before asking, "what are we going to do here?" She lightly smiled, "we're going to go out for food today. Carl, Rick, Glenn, Maggie, Micchone. They're all going, which means you get to stay here with me and the others." I didn't know most of the people she mentioned, but I went along with it as if I did.
I looked around, the house was pretty big for a zombie apocalypse.I was sitting at a table eating a bowl of beans when Carl walked down the stairs. "Hey," he tipped his sheriff hat to me. I giggled, "hi." "I'm about to go food hunting," he smiled, "are 'ya comin' with us?" I shook my head, "sadly, no."
He closed his eyes before nodding.
"Then, I'll see you when I get back. We need to get to know each other." Carl smirked.
I stood up from my seat and stared hard at him as he opened the door and swiveled around, about to close it, "Carl," I huffed, "I'm here for survival; not friendship."----------------------------
