Kyra POV
"Ahahaha, sounds like you guys went through hell." Captain Yami laughed out before taking another puff from his cigarette.
We had just gotten back from our first mission and had reported everything to the captain, who only just now broke his silence.
"Um, I don't think this is a laughing matter," Said Asta, his shoulders slouched as he glanced over at Magna from the corner of his eye. Noelle also sported a look of worry but hid her better than Asta. I'm sure my own emotions were steeping through the blank mask I was trying to plaster on.
Captain huffed out his smoke before responding, "Being depressed isn't going to being Old Man Seyhe back. Right?"
"No but-"
"Yes sir! It's just as you say, sir!" Magna's voice cut off Asta mid-sentence. Stepping forward, the older boy continued, "Old Man Seyhe liked to see everyone happy and full of energy." Turning towards us, he flashed an obviously fake smile, "Come on, you guys should be laughing too."
As he said that, he began to let out forced laughs, Asta soon joining in. I frowned a bit at the sound, not completely understanding why they were forcing themselves to laugh in such a situation.
I jolted forward upon feeling a harsh slap on the back, "Come on, pretty boy, that includes you too." Furrowing my eyebrows, I let out a dry laugh. The only sound that sound be heard were the four of our forced laughers before it was cut off by the captain's voice.
"That's how it should be," The black haired man looked back up at the four of us, his half-finished cigarette hanging from his lips, "It really is a shame what happened to Old Man Seyhe, but the four of you were able to protect the villagers. You should be proud of that."
'Yeah, the four of us', clinching my fist, I was bought back to the feeling of uselessness I had back there. Everyone else was trying their hardest yet I was barely doing anything at all.
'How pathetic, you promised to protect them, but you couldn't even take down a mere weakling like that. Isn't that shameful? If you keep this up, then sooner or later everyone will recognize how weak you are.'
The feeling of the guild shaking bought me out of my thoughts only to find an angry Captain Yami standing in front of a giant hole in the wall, Noelle and Asta bowing their heads in front of them. Blinking in confusion, I watched the two get scolded for destroying the guild by Captain Yami.
Deciding not to voice my thoughts on how he did the most damage, I walked up to the group before gently patting Asta's back out of symphony.
"Hmph, any way's since you guys did a good job on your last mission, we got this." Captain spoke, holding up a golden star.
If I remember correctly, the Wizard King gives stars to guilds who completed risky successfully, a badge of honor I suppose.
I listened a Victoria and Magna explained what stars are to Asta, who I'm pretty sure didn't really understand it all the way but got an idea of their purpose.
"The various Magic Knights squads compete to get the most stars." Victoria explained.
Stepping forward, Finral added, "The number of stars indicates how much work a squad had done."
Hearing this Asta grew excited, "Ah, I see!"
"I read somewhere that Golden Dawn has the most stars, them having a total of seventy." I added in, placing a hand on Asta's shoulder to stop is bouncing, my attempts where ignored when Asta ran forward to Captain Yami with a huge grin on his face.
