The tiny light spread quickly, touching the darkness and warding it off. It spread its warmth everywhere it touched, and even I could feel something sunny seep into my dark, barren heart.

I opened my hands and felt the light spread across my body. I cherished the feeling and the momentary escape from the darkness. Walking carefully, I reached my trembling hands towards the center of the blinding light. I felt the darkness slightly brush against the dark wisps of my hair as if it were trying to coerce me into taking a step back.

Just as my hands touched the light, I felt a furious burning sensation travel across my body. It felt almost as though I was ignited on fire. I stumbled back from the shining light and shook my throbbing hand, trying to release the pain.

The light started growing brighter by the second and I tried to pace myself back into the darkness where I belonged. The darkness seemed to reach out to me as it tried to expand, as if it were attempting to save me from the light. However it was too late, and I saw that by the time I had one hand reaching towards the darkness, the light had swallowed me whole.
