I felt a rush of anxiety through my body that gave me the chills. I sat nervously in the hard chair in the waiting room, staring at my hands as I folded and unfolded my hands.

I know that Shoto wouldn't seriously injure me, but the events of today have me second guessing that. He is naturally cold and aloof towards other people, but he almost always sent brief flashes of smiles my way. The dramatic change in attitude has to have a cause. But what?

Could it be his father? I now know how much Endeavor pushes him to his limits and beyond, but what could he have said to make him act this way towards me. For the few moments that we conversed in the hallway before my match with Shiozaki, I was sure there wasn't any cold blood between the two of us, so it doesn't make sense.

I shook my head, I can't worry about that now. I need to focus. How can I beat him? I need to make a plan.

A few minutes later, and a beep rang throughout the room. I took a deep breath, it's time to go.

My steps heading down the tunnel felt heavy, as if my shoes were filled with lead. I jumped and switched into my skates. I changed the tires for new ones after my previous match, I started trying to clear my head as I accelerated and braked while moving forwards in a zigzag pattern; trying to warm up my tires so they'll have more traction. The possibility of my tires running across ice are not in my favor, so I need as much grip as I can manage.

I finally looked up once I noticed I wasn't in the shadow of the tunnel anymore, and came to a stop, waiting for the over-dramatic introduction that Present Mic was surely going to give. I looked out at the crowd that was visible from my position, and took a deep breath. "No matter what happens, I know that I'll have made Tadashi, and everyone else cheering me on proud." I looked back up at the stands, with a newfound confidence.

"Alright-y ladies and gentlemen! We have one crazy battle coming up. The extremely powerful, Shoto Todoroki!" The crowd cheered, knowing from experience of the previous battles that a fight involving Todoroki is a fun fight to watch.

"Against the speedy racer, Y/n Fukuhara!"

I rolled out onto the field, stopping and staring at Shoto's face, which I couldn't use words to describe. He looked as if he was staring directly through me, with a harsh glare that I had never before experienced. It scared me.

"BEGIN!"

As expected, Todoroki sent out a huge wave of ice in my direction. Luckily, I was prepared. Midoriya let me see all of the notes he had on Todoroki, which wasn't much, but better than nothing.

You'd think after spending so much time with him, I would have more information about his quirk and fighting style, but we never talked about any of that. I can guess that I was his only escape from his father and everything surrounding that. And if I were in his place, I definitely wouldn't want to talk about that stuff.

I placed tracks down and quickly escaped the barrage of ice attacks. I don't know if he's going to use his fire or not, but I can't assume that he won't.

If you prepare for everything, you can't be surprised. And the element of surprise can change the balance of a battle. Luckily, given that Shoto never talks about his quirk or school, I never do. And I haven't told anyone of my new advancement in my quirk, not even Tadashi.

It might be time to shift into 5th gear.

This entire festival I've been constantly keeping it at most 3rd gear, just under 200 mph (322 kph), little under the average speed of Cup Series race cars. Thanks to this, switching into 5th gear will come as even more of a shock. Going from 200 mph to over 800 mph (1,287 kph).
