"Enji has been hiding something from you..."

I blinked up at him, slightly confused, but not surprised. "What is it?"

"Listen, I can't go into detail, that's something for him to tell you in his own time. He has a reason for doing everything that he has done, including marrying your mother, having you, and training you in the ways that he has. Morally, his heart's in the right place - but it's not focused on you or his family. If you're going to be angry with him, be angry for that reason."

I looked down at the floor, "I don't really understand what that means, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually."

A loud booming noise rang throughout the building and the walls shook slightly. I immediately got into a defensive position and looked around in high alert.

Tadashi began to chuckle and I looked at him with an eyebrow raised, "Y/n is working on making a new model of the super-engine. I think it's going well." He flashed me a grin and began walking back down the hall. "You should go see what she's up to, maybe you could help her out."

He walked away and I stood in the hallway for a few more minutes, blinking.

When Todoroki arrived in the workshop, Y/n was indeed experimenting with her new model. Metal parts and tools were strewn everywhere and there was a ring of black soot on the ground where Todoroki assumed the loud boom came from.

Hearing his footsteps, she turned around and wiped some soot off her face while grinning.

"I didn't know you were coming over Shoto, any particular reason?"

Todoroki was still lost in his thoughts. The image of Y/n wearing overalls covered in oil, paint, and soot while smiling replaying in his mind. A heat began to rise to his cheeks, he shook his head trying to clear his thoughts before answering.

"I got in a fight with my dad, and ran into Tadashi. He said I could stay here."

She lugged a big metal cylindrical part over to a desk and hauled it on top. "Wanna talk about it?"

Todoroki walked over and stood next to her, "Not really." "Okay, then you can help me!"

Todoroki nodded, and gave her a quick, small smile. Appreciative that she didn't ask further questions.

"I'm making a new model for the super-engine. This time a cylindrical shape that can be used in auto motives and hopefully maybe even planes and rockets. The cylindrical shape will make transporting them easier and I'm trying to make them highly resistant to heat, pressure, explosions, water, and things like that." She unfolded a blueprint and pointed out different parts of the drawing while explaining it to Todoroki.

He nodded, "How are you going to do that?" She smiled, "I'm glad you asked!"

She grabbed his hand and lead him over to another section of the room where she had some more equipment set up. He felt the heat from before rise to his cheeks again, but he wasn't really sure why. He wasn't sick or anything, but he could also feel this tingling in his stomach. It feels similar to when he's nervous, but why would he be nervous?

He shouldered away the thoughts and focused on helping Y/n. They worked for a few more hours, some trials coming out successful, others not so much - sometimes ending in the two covered with soot and debris from head to toe.

Knowing that they both were planning on doing things tomorrow, Y/n suggested that they wrap it up and get ready for bed.

They talked easily and Todoroki was glad that he could talk to someone outside of his siblings with zero tension or awkwardness. She didn't ask questions about his scar or his past and never stepped over boundaries.
