"Hey Tadashi! Do you have a sec?" I yelled.
"Yeah, what's up?" Tadashi wiped his hands on a washcloth with splotches of oil, gas, and probably dangerous chemicals soaked in it.
"I've been thinking-"
"That's a dangerous past time." He grinned at me as I gave him a small glare.
"What if we changed the model of the super-engine?" I looked up at him expectantly.
"To what exactly? And what for? I thought it worked fine on its own?"
"Well, at the moment it is a cube shape; because that's the easiest to transport to and from hospitals and medical centers. Which is great! I don't want to alter those, but I came up with a new design for a different purpose." I walked over to one of my workstations in our workshop and pulled up a digital blueprint of my new design and enlarged the image across the table tops.
He stared at the design for a few moments then turned his gaze back to me, "What can a cylindrical version do that the cube version can't?"
"It can power large locomotives and automotives."
"Well... damn."
________________
I feel sweat dribbling down my forehead as I round the final corner of the block and my house comes into view. The hot asphalt is heating up the bottom of my running shoes and started to burn my feet. I finally made it to my driveway, only half a mile left to go till I reach my bed!
Luckily, our driveway is lined with Japanese Maple trees that protect the concrete from the blazing sun.
I usually go off in my mind while I'm on my runs, it's a freedom I love. Usually I conjure up some fun ideas for hero support items, or if I'm hungry, daydream of cool ice cream with chocolate syrup.
Today, however, my mind is filled with nothing but nerve wracking anxiety. U.A entrance exams are next week, and the first day of school is in three.
Several heroes recommended me, and I know most of the teachers personally, so I don't have to worry about getting in.
But I've never gone to a real school before! I don't know whether to be excited, nervous, or absolutely terrified. Knowing me, I will probably be all three.
What's it going to be like? Will we have a pop quiz on the first day of school? Will there be grouchy over-dramatic mean girls like in the movies? What will the other students be like? Will they be nice? What if no one talks to me and I'm all alone? I don't think I could handle that for three years.
Maybe I'll make a friend. I've never had one before, my best friend has always been Tadashi. I mean, I hope I can make any to begin with, most people I meet only want to be friends because of my name.
But I talked to Principal Nezu and asked if I could go by a different name, so I wouldn't have to worry about people only liking me for my money or popularity. Well, that's one reason, it's also a safety precaution. Although, he did bring up a good point, most people know what I look like, especially people that live in Japan.
No photos of me have been taken since I returned from that place, two years ago. I've changed quite a lot, I don't think people will be able to recognize me, at least I hope not. I've gone through puberty in that amount of time, and now I'm looking better than ever before, and actually could say I have a womanly figure. Nothing like Ms. Midnight of course, she is in her own league; but I can clean up nicely.
I finally reached the garage, and entered one of the doors. Taking the elevator to the first floor, I strolled into the kitchen and drank some water while scrolling through my phone.
Once finished, I walked to our training room and began to push my quirk to the limits; preparing myself for U.A High!
I know this chapter is short, in fact, this is the shortest chapter in the book. So just hang tight, it gets better.
