With tour over, they'd been let off for the weekend. Seated in the restaurant with his family as he waited for their food to arrive, Jungkook thought back to his conversation with Sae-mi, outside the BigHit studio. She had been right, of course. He huffed to himself.
Jungkook was there at least five minutes before the time Sae-mi had texted him, anxious none of the others would start up a converation with her which she could not escape. Even meeting him outside work hours was risky enough given what most of BTS knew... What if they made a comment, and one of the other staff members heard? They didn't have much time.
The group were already loudly gearing up for an end-of-tour party and should he be gone for too long, questions would begin to get asked.
"Jungkook." The noona called out as she hurried down the corridor.
"I don't have long-"
"-I know. But we need to talk." The maknae nodded solemnly at her insistence. "You need to tell the others what's going on."
"No... Sae-mi I can't-"
"-Yes Jungkook you can. You know the boys far better than I do, and if I'm certain they will be the last people to judge... Surely deep down, you know that too?"But Jungkook sighed deeply, "Its not just judgement I'm scared of. Ji-Jimin said it too... Its that if we tell anyone else... We'll have to face reality-"
"-Reality? Jungkook this is reality!" Sae-mi protested.
"But facing the fans, the media... If we tell the others, they'll remind us of that and that scares me!"The food was settled down and Jungkook began to help himself, but his mind wasn't in the restaurant at all. "How was the rest of tour?" He just managed to catch his dad asking. Through a mouthful of food, he nodded a 'fine' before losing himself into his memories once more.
Sae-mi glared at him, forcing the maknae to maintain eye contact, "Yes, they will probably remind you of the fans, of the risk to the media. But they'll also help you through it all. They are your hyung's Jungkook!" But she knew the youngest had still far to go before he gathered up the courage to speak to them all. Sighing, she changed her tactic. "Jungkook. Tell Jimin how you really feel. Start there."
"What-?""-Do you love him?"
Sensing his silence would unsettle his family, he smiled and began talking about a few humourous moments on tour. But he could not help to notice his explanations always seemed to involve Jimin. Whether 'Jimin thought this of the situation' or 'Jimin and I did this', he was always somewhere within the tale. No matter how he tried, he could not avoid thinking of the older singer.
"What-?" Jungkook spluttered again.
"You heard me clearly the first time," Sae-mi tutted.
"Do you love Park Jimin?"
Jungkook was silent for a while, but despite seeming in thought, Sae-mi knew he was not choosing between whether his answer was a 'yes' or a 'no'. She knew for certain that he'd come to whichever conclusion immediately. He was now debating whether to tell her."Tell him how you feel." She simply replied to his silence.
"You speak quite highly of Park Jimin," Jungkook's mother observed, smiling, "It's nice to see you so close to someone whose near your age." The maknae blushed timidly.
Of course, having begun as a trainee so young, Jungkook's parents had been concerned he'd spend less time with singers his own age. When he told them he would be the maknae of BTS, and his eldest hyung was 20, they had grown more concerned about how this might restrict his teenage years. But, once meeting Jimin and Taehyung, his parents' concerns seemed to dissipate. I mean, Jungkook huffed, Jin could certainly be the maknae sometimes.
