Beep. Beep. Beep. Jason had been in and out of consciousness for the past 2 hours. After Diana screamed his name, the driver came around and shot at him. A bullet had entered his side. He wanted to go after Diana, but he had been shot. The police officer was okay enough to get them both to the hospital in Jason's car. Everything had been such a blur, and he couldn't tell the difference between the hallucinations and the nightmare his life had become.

A nurse came in, "Jason Parker? Let's see, a bullet wound just below the liver. It is a good thing you didn't get shot an inch higher on your body. Just continue to rest, so you can heal. If all goes well, you can leave in 7-12 days."

Jason grunted and barely spit out a few words. "Thank you." He closed his eyes and fell to sleep. He dreamt of an old memory. One day in 8th grade he saw a girl carrying more books than she could handle. She tripped and the books fell to the ground. People around her snickered, but Jason ran over to help.

"What are all these books for?" he asked.

"Oh, just...um science and some... oh nevermind. It doesn't matter. Why are you helping me? Shouldn't you be hanging out with the other people?" the girl insisted.

"What other people? The popular kids? Yeah, no. Too much drama and gossip there. Um...what's your name?"

"Diana. Thank you for helping me." and then she left. After that moment, Jason usually saw Diana hiding behind books in the classes he had with her.

Later in the school year, Jason's school schedule changed and he had PE during 2nd period. Diana happened to be in this PE class. Being forced by the couches to be involved, she attempted basketball.
"Would you like to join me?" Jason asked.

"I don't really play sports," she said, pulling on the sleeves of her hoodie.

"I can show you some tricks if you'd like."

"Um, okay," she said, smiling.

"Now, you stand about right here, with your hand holding the ball like this. And with your right hand, you push the ball to the hoop. Make sure to aim for the box around the hoop. You'll most likely get it in if you hit the box," he explained. Diana attempted many times, and after a little while, she finally succeeded.

The memory faded, and Jason regained consciousness. He tried to sit up in the hospital bed but was unable to.

"Help! Someone, please! I can't move!" he pleaded.

A man with a mouth mask walked in. "Sir, please calm down. Everything is under control for now." The man shut the door and walked closer to the bedside. "Well, it was." The man forced his finger onto his wound. Jason screamed in pain. "No one can hear you." He pulled back, "But I didn't come here to inflict physical pain on you. Darling, can you come here please?"

Diana then walked into the room, and the man removed his mask. "Yes, honey? You called," she said.

"What the heck is going on here? Trevor you're supposed to be dead. Diana, oh thank goodness you're okay." Jason breathed.

"Yes, well I'm not dead. I shot you, and well, now I'm back to steal what's rightfully mine," Trevor bragged, gesturing to Diana.

"Diana no! He's evil! Don't listen to him!" Jason cried.

"Blah blah blah. Doesn't matter now. Come along darling, we have other business to attend to." Diana opened the door and walked out, but Trevor lingered for a moment. He smiled in a devilish manner, winked, and stroked his finger across his neck. "She's dead," he said before exiting the room.

"Diana!" Jason screamed, opening his eyes, he sat up in the bed. There was a faster beeping beside his bed, and the nurse ran into his room.

"Sir, what is wrong? You're safe here, please calm down."
