After a whole year away, home had never been more clear to my mind, to the mind of all my pack. We had settled far enough away simply to sort through what we all really wanted, understand who we knew ourselves to be. Get past the trauma inflicted upon us.
The trip, that time I can't really determine if it was good for everyone, however for me, I knew that it had been my step into accepting not only my role as Alpha but believing in my own capabilities.
And so Greyhound mountain pack land we went.
After making sure the movers knew where to go and had all our things my pack and I decided we would run as far as we could in the direction of home. Nothing like the wilderness to real bring out the wolf in everyone.
We were howling at our goddess, joyful at our soon reunion with our land when it happened.
We were surrounded by trees for the most part. There was a hiss in the air and I pawed the ground coming to a stop and the rest of the pack stilled and listened with me.
I sniffed and growled at the bloody scent and the attached anger and hate weaved through it. From the darkness which surrounded us, they fell from the trees, laughing and formed a circle around us.
A man, heavy, muscled and tall his eyes were a bright red with hints of blue and he was bald. He had one hand in his pocket as he approached his other hand had a lighter which he flicked back and forth. I narrowed my eyes at him.
In all the years I never forgot, however I never held my breathe on seeing him again. The man had not aged a day, had not changed even in the slightest and I wondered if all that time allowed him to forget my face.
"This is cute. Wolves run through my land and think they had a right to be angry."
I growled and shifted, standing tall before the vampire in front of us.
"This is not your land."
"Oh?" He raised a brow and chuckled. "You think the lack of piss and dog breath means it's free of residents? That's a touch racist."
"Vampires don't live in the wilderness and even then their scents are all over. We aren't trespassing."
"Ignorant Alpha trying to seem tough? Cute." He walked around slowly. "We just arrived, claiming it now, so you are trespassing."
I stared at him in question.
"It doesn't work that way, Alaric." He raised a brow, his eyes shifting around.
"Oh? And who are you? Vampire council? I think not." He flashed his teeth then and a wolf cried. I growled realising they were attacking.
"Long time no see, Alpha." He smirked at me, clear in his recognition of me.
I felt my heart race on that moment as I watched my pack fight against the vampires, defending as best as they could in such an ambush when I shifted and this man threw his lighter at me. I moved too late, my fur caught fire and I howled from shock as flames flickered over me in seconds and he laughed and suddenly everyone froze to see the commotion. To witness the fall of their alpha and in that moment I felt weak, near death when I felt the pull.
Ace howled out for me, watching in grief and defencelessly pacing when I growled, digging my paws into the ground and realising that I wasn't on pain. No, instead I felt my body begin to change.
The smell of burning fur stayed on everyone's mind and their eyes widened realising that what they were expecting was not happening.
I felt my skin stretch and I watched my paws grow, my claws extended and sharpened black and my fur fell away, red scales replacing instead and my own eye widened, I looked to Ace who froze and watched. The pack began to growl collectively and I myself let out a roar.
