I know Liz (I gave her a modified name to ensure her confidentiality). She is a little girl (aged 7 years).
Liz was hugging her dad when they were told that her dad had cancer. Her mum told her that the cancer will take her dad's life. Liz witnessed the pain, the torture, the desperation... that her dad went through till the last few seconds of his life. Doctors have suggested to her dad to video record his wishes and messages for Liz because his days were limited. His wishes will be replayed to Liz during her birthdays.....
I knew that Liz's dad had passed away. I tried to find words to comfort Liz.
Liz told me, "My dad is in a better place now." She paused.
I looked at her mum who remained silent in the room. I turned to Liz and found her wiping her tear off her face quickly so that I wouldn't notice it. This moment was heart wrenching. I hugged Liz and told her, "It is OK to cry, it is ok to tell us how you feel, we are always with you."
