Gandalf turned to Thorin and sighed. Dwalin then yelled to the Company, “I cannot see where the path there leads. Do we follow it or no?”
Bofur yelled back to Dwalin in suspense, “Follow it of course.” The rest of the Company followed into the narrow paths. Thorin looking angrily follows in suspense.
Gandalf quietly says to himself, “I think that would be wise.” Quickly the dwarves made their way through the narrow trails. Bombur being as big as he was had the most trouble getting through. The dwarves behind him began pushing and shoving telling him to go faster. He distinctly moves forward through the trails. Above the Hidden Passes rock cover there was light showing. Thorin looked up at it. He looked around wondering where this path would take them. Carefully the dwarves made their way out of the Pass. In the distance they saw Rivendell. The magnificent white Hidden city was surrounded by a valley of green trees and hills of stone.
The view of the sea was a beautiful sight and it connected the whole view of the Hidden city. Thorin sighs and looks angry at the sight of Rivendell. Thorin knew Gandalf was leading them there. He had suspected it. Gandalf slowly come out of the Pass and tells the Company, “It the common tongue the city is known by another name.”
Bilbo smiles and says with a sigh, “Rivendell.”
Gandalf then spoke again as the dwarves turned around to face him, “Here lies the last house of the Eastern Sea.”
Thorin slowly makes his way toward Gandalf and said to him angrily, “This was your plan all along. To seek refuge with our enemy.”
Gandalf looked down at Thorin and said “You have no enemies here, Thorin Oakenshield. The only ill world to be found in this valley to bring it yourself.”
Thorin looked back up at Gandalf and spoke, “You think the Elves will give our quest their blessing. They will to stop us.”
Gandalf looked at Thorin with wiry but distinctly says, “Of course they will. But we have questions that need to be answered. If this plan is to be respectful it will be needed to be handled with tacked and respect and no small degree of charm. Which is why you will leave all the talking to me?” Thus Gandalf lead the Company into Rivendell. Large statues of Elven soldiers stood guard of the city. Bilbo stood under one of the statues and smiled. He was happy to be in a safe haven. Thorin then whispered to his fellow men as they looked around their surroundings. Then down the large stone steps came one of the servants of Lord Elrond, The ruler of Rivendell.
The purple dressing around him made a cloak and a crown of Elvish gold sat upon his Elven head. The servant yelled to Gandalf, “Mithrandir!” He moved one of his hands out to Mithrandir instructing a ‘hello’ in the gesture. Gandalf walked toward the servant.
The servant said to him at last in the elvish tongue, “I heard you were in the valley.”
Gandalf by instinct said to the servant, “I must speak with Lord Elrond.”
The servant said back to Gandalf in suspense as he shook his head, “Lord Elrond is not here.”
Gandalf shook his own head in wonder then spoke, “Not here? Where is he?” Just then the Elven horn was heard again. Lord Elrond had leaded his soldiers into the valley to attack the Orcs that were to close to their boarders. Gandalf sighed and turned around to the sight of Lord Elrond’s soldiers approaching the entrance to Rivendell. By instinct Lord Elrond and his soldiers circled around the dwarves and Bilbo. Thorin tells his Company to fall back into a circle. Bilbo fell into the middle of the circle carefully looking up at the large Elven riders circling them. Then in the nick of time Bilbo spotted Eminork on the back of Lord Elrond’s black horse.
