Below the Goblin city was the cold, dark tavern. Bilbo and the goblin laid flat on their backs, unconscious. Just as Bilbo came back to the world, a small figure appeared. A slim pale big eyed creature slowly circled around the goblin. The creature’s name was Gollum.
Gollum began to speak to himself. He called himself Precious, “Yes. Yes.” Just as he says that a scratchy evil voice comes from him, “Gollum, Gollum.” (This is how Sméagol got his name after he became obsessed by the One Ring and after he killed his cousin Déagol.)
Anyway back to the story. Gollum began to drag the goblin away when it awoke from its slumber. The goblin fought back against Gollum/Sméagol. Gollum picked up a rock and then struck the struggling goblin with it. Just as Gollum hit the goblin with the rock a golden ring fell from his cloth pants. Bilbo saw it and wondered why a creature like that would want a ring but he did not make a sound until the creature would leave then he would get the ring. The goblin fell unconscious again then Gollum dragged him off to his large lair or cave. I should say.
Bilbo stood up once Gollum left and picked up his glowing sword and used it as a flashlight to find the golden ring that Gollum had dropped. Bilbo picked up the ring and still wondered why a creature so pale and slim would want with a golden ring. Just as he was looking at the ring he heard Gollum mutter to himself, “Good to eat….”
Gollum was finishing a song he was singing to himself and to his inner soft side Sméagol and was finishing the killing the job of the goblin he was about to eat. Just as the goblin died Bilbo’s glowing sword’s blue glow vanished. He starred at it curiously but focused on the fact he was in a dark tavern with a creepy pale slim creature. Bilbo looked around the rock for Gollum but saw no sight of the creature. He looked worried now and tried to remain calm but couldn’t. Gollum was now on his little boat he made to roam the little river that runs through the mountain. Just as Bilbo thought things were all good, Gollum appeared over ahead.
He began to speak in his scratchy voice to himself, “Bless us, Precious. That’s a meaty mouth full.” Bilbo who was now scared out of his mind put his Elvish blade to Gollum’s chest. Gollum then muttered out, “Gollum, Gollum.”
Bilbo began to speak again, “Back. Stay back. I’m warning you. Don’t come any closer.” Gollum back up and crawled down to the floor.
He spoke once more, “It’s got an Elvish blade but it’s not an elf’s. What is it, Precious? What is it?”
Bilbo spoke again still holding Sting (the name of the sword that later become legend in the Lord of the Rings movies and books), “My name is Bilbo Baggins.”
Gollum looked confused as he spoke, “Bagginsess? What is a Bagginsess, Precious?”
Bilbo then replied to Gollum’s answer, “I’m a hobbit of the Shire.”
Gollum looked down with a smile on his face and said, “Oh! We like goblins, bat’s and fishes. But we haven’t tried hobbits before. Is it soft? Is it juicy?”
Bilbo began to swing his Elvish sword at Gollum and spoke, “Stay back! Keep your distance! I will use this if I have to.”
Gollum screamed at Bilbo but withdrew his distance from the armed hobbit. “I don’t want any trouble do you understand?! I just show me the way to get out of here and I’ll be on my way.” Bilbo said as he drew Gollum toward a large boulder.
Gollum then asked the hobbit in his scratchy voice, “Why? Is it lost?”
Bilbo nodded and said with a bit of worry wondering about the Company and his niece, “Yes. Yes I’m lost and I want to get out of here as soon as possible.”
