Lauren and Teddy led us to a giant meeting room, while Ester led our girls to another part of the capitol. Once we all sat down, Lauren began speaking.
"So as you two know, Teddy and I have a heart for those who don't have a voice. While Theta Beasts has aided greatly in helping the specialties of this generation, I feel there needs to be an equal opportunity for those who are more than just a specialty."
"Like us?" I asked.
"Yes," Lauren smiled. "Specialties who possess more than just supernatural abilities are just as real in this state. And I'm sure in all parts of the world. But I'm afraid they're seen as too much of a threat to be given chances that regular specialties have been given. And that's not fair to them."
"I agree," King said. "I've witnessed first hand how people treat beings like us. It's only until we make a name for ourselves that we receive any sort of regular treatment."
Regular treatment...
"That's the problem..." I blurted out.
"What are you thinking, Bey?" Teddy asked as he sat up to fold his hands on the table.
"The reason my parents started Theta Beasts was because, they too, had a heart for those without voices. Back then, it was just specialties that were on the rise. They were concerned with society not giving them equal opportunities as regular people. At the time, it made sense. Aside from having a couple extra abilities, specialties are just regular people that are a product of an over polluted environment. Us, on the other hand...people like me and my family...we're not regular people in the slightest. Chemical imbalances didn't make us this way. We come from a world within a world. In realizing that, I don't think we should be looking to seek validation from any being of this world, specialty or not."
Lauren looked at me intently.
"Teddy and I are at a disadvantage when it comes to really knowing what your community seeks since we're only regulars ourselves. Please, don't hold back on anything that's on your mind."
I looked to King and he nodded in approval.
"We don't need to be treated equally to everyone else...because we're not like everyone else. We're way more complex than abnormal DNA. Therefore, we need to be reverenced. With reverence, comes respect and a healthy fear of who we are...what we are...and what we're capable of. Think of Christianity. As a matter of fact, think of any religion that exists. Every faith has its own higher being that its followers reverence. As a result of that, they study their god to the point where they have great knowledge of him or her and have a higher respect for them. Now, I'm not saying that we should be worshipped or that I see us as gods by any means...but there's a level of ignorance that's still associated with specialties that we won't tolerate."
There was a pregnant pause as everyone sat and contemplated the words that were spoken. It was a little while before Lauren spoke up.
"Our original plans were to have you and King pioneer a new age," she said.
"Something that would show New York that spirits are here and should be accommodated into society just like specialties," Teddy continued.
