Having to be someone you're not is a special kind of hell. I've had to tame the ruthless beast inside me for eleven years. I never asked to be in this position. It was forced upon me by my parents. But not in the way that you think...

Houston, Texas,"Wait a minute," I said in disbelief. "What you're telling me is that my parents left their entire company to me? That can't be right. I haven't even graduated high school yet."
As if the overwhelming amount of rain pouring down wasn't enough, I get bombarded by life changing news that I'd rather do away with. My sister, Kelly, looked down at my parents' will, then up to our family friend, Julius, then to me with worried eyes on the brim of shedding tears.
"Bey," she said with a broken voice, "he's right. They left all their assets, employees, business plans and future expansion blueprints to you."
I couldn't believe this. It's not that my parents were horrible. It's just that because they were the founders of an up and coming company in America, they were never really around. In retrospect, I hardly knew them. But no one's life should be taken by the hands of a thoughtless maniac. They were brutally murdered in their joint office four weeks prior. They didn't suspect to have people out to get them because of their net worth. They were too nice and down to earth to even seem like a threat to anyone.
But I guess they were wrong. I remember Kelly and I getting that horrific phone call. Though we weren't close at all, they were still our parents, our family. In their constant absence, they always made sure we were taken care of, whether it be by having someone they knew very well watch over us, leaving money on our nightstands with a little love note every morning saying how proud they were of us, or by taking care of our academic needs. They were never there, but they always were at the same time.
"So what are you gonna do?" Julius said, interrupting my thoughts.
I looked down to my lap, my face feeling dry from all the tears I shed. I felt a soft hand collide with mine in an attempt to comfort, only to see it was Kelly's. She looked at me and gave a reassuring smile, silently encouraging me with her eyes.
"Their legacy has to live on..."

Present day
New York City, 3025As much as I didn't want this new role, I never thought I would become this successful doing it. I'm the leader of the biggest and fastest growing company in America; Theta Beasts. Our priority is to take in and cultivate the "freaks" of society; the people who possess supernatural powers. We call them specialties. You see, as more years passed, chemical imbalances in the earth's environment have advanced. So much so to the point where it's been effecting people, mutating their genes and chromosomes which allows them to obtain supernatural abilities. "Normal" people wouldn't accept them; they refused to give them jobs, homes, a chance to succeed in life. So we have scouts go out and recruit them, giving them our information and ensuring that they can find a home with us.
Once we take them in, we give them living quarters to settle in within the particular division they're close to in proximity. We have divisions in every state in America that's easily accessible but also indestructible. In those divisions, there are specific instructors and teachers to help them hone and learn more about their abilities, so that one day they can either use them to help advance American society, or to add valuable assets to our company.
Theta Beasts's HQ used to be based in Houston. But after the death of my parents, Kelly thought it would be best to relocate to New York; higher security, higher personnel, and an overall perfect place for big opportunities. She agreed to become my business partner and COO of the company. She's been a big help for me. And our employees as well as our specialties really like her. They think of me and her as their moms; she's the fun-loving one, and of course I'm the stern one. But I do show them my silly side from time to time. We're all basically a family. No one's above or beneath anyone. We all need each other.
Being head of all this has taken a toll on me, however. I'm naturally a meek, very shy, and often timid woman. Being in my position, I've been forced to associate myself with men who think they know what's best for my company and how to run it. Almost everyday I have to succumb to amateur suggestions, sly, sexist comments, and occasional sexual harassment since I'm the only female CEO in America right now. In my earlier years, I've been able to ignore their pointless comments with ease, not wanting to cause trouble. But once I turned 30, it became more and more difficult to contain my anger. I would suddenly feel heat rising from my body, but it felt oddly comforting. Kelly could always sense when I was about to lose control of my facade. It's one of her many gifts. After Julius died from a tragic accident, Kelly took on his abilities to connect and spiritually communicate with others. She would supply me homemade remedies that would subdue the anger festered up inside me.
We thought I was normal for a long time, Kelly being the only child in our immediate family to have noticeable abilities. But once I turned 20, I started experiencing supernatural symptoms every night. They continued to get worse the older I got. It seemed that taking on this job was exposing the abilities I didn't know I had. But it never fully manifested. Not until I met him...
