All through school I started out of the window, not paying attention to the boring old teacher at the front of the class, lecturing on about something I really couldn’t care less about. All that was on my mind was that curly haired angel I saw in the coffee shop this morning … I ran my fingers through my overly-dyed hair in frustration, I wanted to know so much more about him but I was too shy, yes I may look like someone who would beat you up if you looked at me for more than a few seconds, but really, I was as shy as a mouse and as cuddly as a little puppy dog. I chewed on my metal lip ring, hooked over my lip as I thought about how I could pluck up the courage to go and talk to him

“Mr Horan, answer the question please”, my History teacher snapped at me

“Err  ...umm  ... 1945?” I spoke slowly, thinking up the first date that came into my head, the class burst out laughing and I turned to Louis, who mouthed to me

“The answer is Churchill you idiot”

“Umm  ... I meant Churchill  ... sorry I got  ... confused”

“Well done Mr Horan, and next time, try to pay attention in my class” she sternly spoke as the bell for the end of the day rang, thank god! I didn’t want to be stuck in this hell prison any more, as me and Louis packed our bags and carelessly sauntered out of the classroom.

I reached into my blazer pocket and grabbed a hold of my last cigarette

“Hey Lou do you have a lighter? Mine has ran out of fuel  ...” Hoping he had his with him today

“Yeah sure mate” He said happily, throwing it towards me

“Wanna go to the coffee shop now? I mean... we have nothing better to do”

Truth is, I didn’t have any other friends apart from Louis, and he was all that I had, after my family left me when I came out to them. I was living in Ireland, aged 16, when I told them, they were furious and refused to believe that their son was gay, so they made me move to London, where I met Louis, who was advertising for a roommate, as he couldn’t pay the bills for his apartment by himself, and we have been joined by the hip ever since.

Walking faster than usual I walked towards the coffee shop as I wanted to get to the café as soon as possible to see the curly headed beauty. I took a deep drag of my cigarette, combing my long fingers through my newly dyed blonde hair, the ring on my middle finger getting caught in some of the messy knots in my quiff, smiling to myself as we neared the coffee shop.

“Hurry Lou, we are almost at the shop” I excitedly said, stumping gout the stub, blowing out the last puff of smoke in my mouth into Lou’s face, laughing as he pulled a sour face coughing from the fumes.

A few seconds later we reached the coffee shop, and I looked inside. It was still fairly empty, like this morning. And I saw him again, behind the counter, fiddling with his fingers cutely, the flower crown in his hair, slipping off slowly as he did so. A look of utter concentration was etched on his face as he tapped out a beat on the wooden counter top.

That was when I opened the door and his head shot up, and his jade eyes connected with my azure ones.
