"Okay guys, this is it. I know a lot of you are still reeling from the cotillion, but this is the game that could make or break our chances at the Quidditch Cup. So we have to forget everything and pull through. Okay, we are amazing! Okay? And we will win! I believe in our ability to destroy those Ravenclaw bitches. And you best be sure that after, we are going to party until the sUN CoMeS uP!" James was jumping around all the benches while he delivered his hyperactive motivational speech to the entire room, though I'm pretty sure the entire pitch could hear it to be honest.
"What's with the excess energy radiating off you." Frank looked a little scared at the sudden bursts of energy that James exhibited through his screaming and jumping around like a deranged maniac on drugs or something. And honestly, I wouldn't blame him because I was a little scared too. I had seen what an excited James could do and only half of it was pleasant and out of that, only a quarter of it was a kind of pleasant that I would want to be involved in, the rest was just to watch him make a big fool out of himself. So yeah, there were no boundaries at this point.
"No reason in particular, definitely not something to do with a one Lily Evans, I just have soooooo much faith in you guys and I know for a FACT that we WILL win!!" This time, when he finished, a huge roar erupted from the crowd after which James led us to the open pitch where we mounted our brooms and waited. I watched as the referee sauntered over to the centre of the grass with a suitcase that rattled with the Bludgers that wanted to get out. I clutched my bat with my clammy hands and prepared myself for the battle that was about to ensue. I can do this, I can help the team to the victory. We can win. And we will win. Yes.
I was attracted to the sudden sound of the bouncing Bludgers that were released and had resorted to wreaking havoc all over the pitch. Then, the Golden Snitch flew away at the amusement of many, after which finally, the referee threw the Quaffle high into the air while a whistle sharpy blew and the game was on. I looked over to the Bludger that I was meant to be keeping track of. It was hovering near the Ravenclaws so I wouldn't have to worry much about it. The stakes this time were higher, winning this game meant we had a spot in the Quidditch Cup and we would come third place at least and I wanted it, the team wanted it and we were going to get it. I hit the Bludgers where I could and tried to avoid any commentary that could distract me. According to James' strategy, when I wasn't doing anything, I was to look for the Snitch and inform Frank so we could win this ish. I flew around the stands, my eyes searching for any trace of gold, but to no prevail. Frank looked calm and composed and his posture didn't yet slump but after a half an hour of flying, the sweat, the fatigue and the cold slowly began to creep in. But I was going to push through, our hard work would pay off; it would not be for nothing.
James along with the other Chaser were doing the best they could, and they had scored us a few loops but Ravenclaw Chasers were infamous for their talent and agility, which is why for James strategy, it relied heavily on us catching the Snitch quickly before they scored too many points. Luckily for us however, their Seeker and their Beaters were terribly giving us the upper hand in that department. And we were going to use that to the best of our ability, whether it was screaming "Snitch!" at nowhere to send them on a wild goose chase or by sending multiple Bludgers at the Chasers while they were conveniently on the other side of the pitch. I was surprised no one was yet injured but through fifty minutes, it was only a matter of time.
I was doing my usual rounds over the pitch when I saw it. A flickering shimmer, a glimmer of hope, a tint of gold, a symbol of the victory we were about to seize. Before thinking I pointed in the other direction and shouted, "SNITCH!" It worked because even though they knew I may have been bluffing, it was only right that they make sure of it. Meanwhile, Frank looked at me with a puzzled face; usually our tactics were planned so my impromptu shout was odd. I pointed hurriedly at the real Snitch before we lost our gaining time advantage. He saw it and flew straight toward it, giving me a thumbs up from behind. Soon one of the Ravenclaw Chasers caught air of our scheme and informed the rest which led to a high-speed chase between Frank and the Ravenclaw Seeker, whatever the fuck his name was. Obviously, Frank was better and faster and it was only a matter of seconds before he closed his palm over our win, before his catch got us into the leagues, before he gave us our victory, before-
"FRANK LONGBOTTOM HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH!" The Gryffindor stands leaped with cheers and the incessant waving of the scarlet and gold flags throughout the House. "GRYFFINDOR WINS!" All the players accumulated at the centre of the pitch, waiting with congratulations and pride, shaking hands, exchanging hugs, jumping rapidly. This was our win and our win alone.
The ecstasy soared through the air, my newfound warmth drove away my cold fears. I spotted James as he had finished hugging his fellow Chasers and I ran toward him as he did, the both of us meeting halfway with the tightest hug ever. It it weren't for the pur adrenaline coursing through my veins, I would have heard my bones crush.
Remus, Lily and hundreds of Gryffindors came running down to greet us. I ran into Remus' arms and welcomed him to the crazy with a kiss.
It was awesome.
