I sort of wished the leather couch would swallow me whole. Of course I wasn't nervous...but never in my life have I cared so much about a first impression. Priscilla made it easy on me. From what Caleb and Jason have told me, I dont think Lucius will. They sat on either side of me now, really squishing me more that necessary. We heard the front door open and close, and we all stood up to greet them. A man with long blonde hair entered first, followed by an identical younger boy. Draco and Lucius. Priscilla trailed behind them, talking in hushed tones with a woman with short black hair with a blonde undercut. The moment this lady saw me, she froze. Then she ran over to me, nearly knocking Caleb and Jason off their feet. "Merlin, Priscilla, she looks just like Avalon!" She cupped my face in her hands and I looked at her inquisitively. "Avalon? Was that my mother's name?"
Her thumb brushed the side of my cheekbone and I could see tears welled up in her eyes "Yes, love, it was. And she was absolutely brilliant."
Lucius cleared his throat and looked at his wife with a half smile. It looked odd on him. "My dear, why don't we all tell Isabella everything she needs to know over dinner as we previously discussed?"
I suppose that's why Priscilla hadn't explained much yesterday. Of course I hadn't had the courage to ask, either.
Winky appeared in the doorway.
"Missus, dinner will be ready in about 20 minutes."
Priscilla seemed annoyed about the delay. Lucius rolled his eyes. "Priscilla, it would do you well to look in to those house elf punishing techniques. They're very efficient." Priscilla shook her head. "Winky is fragile. If I did that, I would be out a house elf." She turned to me. "Isabella, darling, why don't you take Draco up to your room?" Before Caleb and Jason could react, Lucius clamped a hand on their shoulders and started asking them about Quidditch.
I smiled at Draco and tilted my head towards the stairs. "C'mon, maybe you can tell my why someone thought Every Flavor Beans were a good idea."
He laughed a little. Unlike Lucius, smiling suited him. "They're meant to be awful. That's the fun in them. Absolutely sinister, if you ask me."In my room, Draco helped me sort my packages in order from the most likely to be boring to the most likely to be interesting, based on family.
"The Goyles?"
"They're a lot of oafs, but filthy rich and somewhat tolerable." He gestured towards the interesting pile.
"Bellatrix Lestrange?"
"She's my aunt. Bloody hilarious, but she doesn't care for formalities like this." I put it in the boring pile
There were five neatly wrapped packages stacked together. I held them up. "These are from you."
"Put them in a separate pile. You're meant to open those with my father."
"Can you at least tell me what they are?"
"I dont know what any of them are, except for the one I picked."
"You picked one out?"
He rolled his eyes. "Father's got no idea whats in style these days. He took me to a shop in Knockturn Alley and he nearly bought you a cursed rag doll"
We both burst out laughing.
"You're not serious!"
"I could not make that up!"
"Children," Lucius appeared in the doorway, a gleam in his eyes at the sight in front of him. "It's time for dinner."
