Draco was right. Mia Fawley was absolutely going to be an amazing friend.
Just after Draco was dragged off  by Narcissa to discuss courses with Mrs. Zabini, Mia swooped in and pulled me into an empty parlor.
"Merlin's beard, I didn't think that little prick would ever leave you alone!"
I laughed. "Truthfully, I dont mind. He's helped me avoid conversation with the adults."
"Well, he's also successfully made it impossible for me to make conversation with you. And I absolutely needed to."
"Why?"
"To secure the spot of your best friend, of course! We leave for school in a few weeks! And I've seen that Ella Rosier keeping her eye on you all night!"
I smiled at her eagerness. I had noticed Ella too. But Draco had told me that she was a bore. "Well, Rosier is absolutely no competition for you. However, I think we should try and befriend her, since we're probably gonna be in the same dorm, and it would be more fun if we all actually liked each other."
She grinned. "I like the way you think."

We stayed in the parlor for a while, talking and laughing. She told me she had a crush on Jason, and I told her she better not let him find out because I could predict his exact response, (I could hear it now... "Mia, you're only ELEVEN!") to which she collapsed in to a fit of blushing giggles.

Draco appeared in the doorway. "No fair, you two have been hiding from the adults this entire time?"

Soon, Draco had Crabbe, Goyle, the twins, Theo, and Zabini stuffed into the small room with Mia and I. It was silent at first, but then, Zabini broke the silence by saying, "You know, one day, we'll be the adults out there, and our kids will be hiding from US and our horridly boring conversations."

"I beg your pardon?" Narcissa crossed her arms in the entryway, her eyebrows raised playfully. "You lot are lucky it was me who heard that and not one of the boring old gents in the dining room."
Lucius cleared his throat from behind Narcissa. "My dear, we're waiting on you to start."
Narcissa turned to us, winked, and walked away with Lucius, who didn't look like he was sure if he should be amused or offended.
Then it was our turn to laugh.

Theo took a glass orb with blue smoke out of his pocket. It projected constellations on the ceiling. We all sat there in silence for a short bit. Draco was right next to me and whispered, "come on." He quietly slipped out of the room and motioned for me to do the same. He took my hand and led me up the stairs to my room, and then pushing open the door to my balcony. "Why look at fake stars when you can watch the real thing?" He used the railing to hop up on to the flat section of the roof over my room, and then offered me a hand, pulling me up. We laid back, staring at the sky. Draco seemed to really enjoy stars, I noticed. He went on and on about constellations, pointing at them and explaining their shapes.

"Do you hope to become an astronomer?"
Draco blushed and shook his head. "Father says I have to be a leader of some sort. Astronomy isn't honorable enough."
I nodded. "I understand. I always wanted to be an artist, but my muggle parents were scientists. They said art was useless, so..." I trailed off, lost in thought. While I knew that my life was undoubtedly going to be better than it was before, I hadn't considered that some things were going to be the same.

Watching the stars became a hobby of ours. Often, Draco would come over with his parents for dinner with my family, and while the parents chatted after, we would lay on our spot on the roof and he would tell me all about the stars, and how, sometimes, destiny could be written in them.
