Our story takes place where the crystal clear water of the ocean crashes against the pearly white shores and where the line of the horizon does not end and goes on and on for miles upon miles until it vanishes.
Hongjoong was an orphan raised on a merchant ship. He was shamelessly used by everyone on board. When he was still a toddler he was used as a powder monkey which was a very dangerous work.
As time went on, he became too big to fit between the decks and since he had become useless to the crew, he was thrown away as if he were seagull scum.
At the age of 17, he got traded to another ship where he ended up being one of the boatswains.
Due to his fairly rare and uncommon sapphire blue eyes, he was cherished by the crew as a sort of good-luck charm. They went to him every time they raided a town or before a battle to 'ask for protection'.
If only they knew what else hid those twinkly pupils.
He had managed to resist another two years and a half before he rebelled and, during a stop at a port for a good supply, he escaped the ship, letting the crew set off without him hoping that they wouldn't find out too soon.
He found himself alone and lost on a strange island full of bizarre people.
Later on he discovered that the island was called Tortuga and that the port his former crew decided to dock at was a trading point between merchants and pirates.
He lived in a room above a tavern helping the owner with simple chores such as serving the tables or sweeping and mopping the red-stone floors.
Although most people weren't the definition of angels, the place soon grew on him. He could spend hours on end looking outside of his window at the ocean's crystal clear water without getting bored one second. While working at the tavern, he also stayed at the local pier helping the sailors dock the incoming ships for some extra coins.
It was there where he found Mingi and became friends with him.
Both of them worked at the port in the middle of long ropes and cracking wood, laughing and joking around until it was time to get back in town.
The duo got closer each passing day and, after longing to travel the ocean for months, they decided to dive in.
They only needed a ship and supplies. Easy, isn't it?
Oh yes, definitely.
Everything went according to their plan until they saw a galleon docked in one of the cliff's crevasses on a hot June afternoon. It had been left unguarded and although it was in a pretty bad state, it still floated and that was more than enough for them.
For the next three weeks, they'd try to sneak as much material as they could in order to make the ship safer and without the risk of it having a leak when at open sea.
During the restoration, they noticed that the name on the back had been scraped away, despite that they decided to leave it so.
Once they managed to put the ship back together, they loaded basic necessities and decided to set off the next day at dawn while everyone else was either waking up to go fishing or still too drunk to be productive.
After having sailed for about two weeks, trying to get to know the ship, which they found way too big for them only, they found out that they urgently needed a restock. They stopped at the first island they found to look for food and supplies such as dried meat, fish and, most importantly, drinkable water.
