"Hey ho, hey ho..."

Droplets of cool rain began to fall all around, the chaotic ticking mixed with the sound waves and wind was somewhat calming as you chanted a few syllables of an old song that somehow you remembered the lyrics to.

The bell above your head rang every time that the ship inclined and the already drenched sails began to drip water on your face making you look up at the dark, covered sky.

Yet another clap of thunders shook the ocean and the ship cracked as if it wanted to fall apart at that precise moment; the prow dipped down, dangerously close to touching the rim of the high waves and then tilted sideways making the ropes around your breast and shoulders squeeze you.

It went on for ages, the unrhythmical motions making you feel seasick. The only distraction being the old song's lyrics dripping from your lips.

"Hey ho, hey ho... the ancient sailor's gone..."

After a few hours, you assumed, the wind unexpectedly calmed down.

The raindrops fell into straight lines, perfectly perpendicular to the ship. Then the wind started again, blowing into the sails the opposite way and stopping the whole vessel from continuing its course.

In between the dark heavy clouds, the moon shined its white-bluish glow upon the empty deck, only to disappear again in that same dense mist a second later.

The rain did not stop pouring one second and, by now, it already seeped through your clothing and bindings, drenching you until your very bones.

You weren't cold, though: the wind wasn't as chilly as you had expected it to be and even the raindrops were slightly warm, as if they were tears, calmly falling down from an angel's face.

The ship was still being held steady by the wind and the rudder squeaked and cracked in a less than reassuring way, alerting your senses and making you focus on the wheel up on the desolated bridge.

Everything was still again.

But then the rain became so thick that you could hardly see anything while the wind loudly hollered.

It was obvious that the wooden board between the flooring and the wheel couldn't resist the strength of the waves for much longer.

Mere seconds apart, as if it heard the thoughts in your head, the piece of wood snapped down the middle, leaving the two ropes attached to the mizzenmast be the only way the ship could maintain the route.

The top of the mizzen mast bent sideways and tugged one of the ropes that soon began to fray.

Even from a distance, your eyes widened at the sight.

Alarmed by the sudden situation, you began screaming for someone who could come up and do something, anything.

"HEY! HEY! Someone wake up! The rope's gonna snap!" your voice trembled in fear and disbelief.

The rope began fraying faster until it came to a breaking point, making the the ship take a sharp turn.
You grunted in pain and screamed again.

In spite of the loud thundering and your screams, nobody came.

"For God's sake, hurry up!"

The knot of the last shadow of salvation began to loosen, freaking you out even more.

You wriggled frantically trying to get rid of the rope constricting your body until you managed to free your arms so that you could completely untie yourself from the mainmast.

Turning side to side, still no one was in sight.

You scrambled to the bridge tripping over your own feet just in time to get a hold of the wheel, using all the strength in your arms to pull the rudder in place.
