❄️The rumour in St. Petersburg.❄️
Y/N threaded through the long crowds, shivering at the cold, chilly air that surrounded her. She swore she could hear every single person murmuring about Anastasia, but she was most likely imagining things, that's crazy.
She felt someone bump into her. She let out a huff then turned to face whoever it was.
Her gaze softened, "Dmitri. Hi."
"Hey Y/N," he looked around, his gaze flicked across the busy streets until his eyes seemed to light up. He grabbed her arm and dragged her across the street. She was surprised she let him do this, she normally would shove him off.
"Dmitri, what're you doing?"
"That —," he pointed towards a guy on a stand, yelling something while holding a music box, "What if it's Anastasia's? Oh, maybe it is-"
"It probably isn't," She grumbled, "I mean, look around. Many people are selling stuff and claiming it was the Romanov's. What's the difference with this musical box?"
"I just have a feeling." Dmitri said, determination laced his voice.
Y/N knew she couldn't convince him to let it go, so, she gave in with a quiet sigh, "alright, go on."
He smiled then bounced off, the girl with a grin on her face trailing behind him, "I'd like to buy." He gazed up.
"Ah, this item's genuine Romanov," He held the music box up to his chest. The girl gazed at it, she couldn't help but feel as if she's seen it before, "I could never part with it!"
Dmitri rolled his eyes slightly then dug around in his bag, "Two cans of beans, Conrad?"
"Deal."
Y/N couldn't help but snicker from beside him, "Let's go. It's getting cold."
"Alright," he took the music box then carefully put it in his backpack, walking off with Y/N next to him.
"I am the Grand Duchess, Anastasia Romanov!" The girl on the stage exclaimed, chewing on whatever she had in her mouth.
Y/N never liked these 'Anastasia Auditions', they were honestly pointless. St. Petersburg was always filled to the brim with rumours. So what was this small, little rumour? It couldn't be true, it was too unrealistic.
And honestly, she didn't want it to be true either.
Her brother, Gleb, and herself made a deal. To carry on their fathers legacy if this rumour really was true. And not only that, many people would also be disappointed to find that they didn't. And she honestly would hate to do that — to kill her, if Anastasia was alive still.
They were childhood friends, after all.
Them hanging out and talking together seemed forever ago, the thought seemed so unreal and foggy. It was hard to remember most of it, but she did remember every single detail of that day.
She remembered sneaking in the castle, cheering Anastasia up, giving her that necklace —.. speaking of the necklace, Y/N still had it.
She kept it in her pocket most of the time, she rarely wore it. But when she did, she found herself wishing the revolution never happened more and more.
She fished the necklace out of her pocket then dangled the chain around her fingers, mindlessly twirling and fidgeting it around while Dmitri and Vlad continued questioning the "Anastasia's".
"- Y/N are you even paying attention?"
"Hm?"
"Exactly," Dmitri sighed, then slumped down onto a couch, dust puffing up as he did.
"I'm sorry," Y/N sat up, resting her head on her hand, "I just feel like it's pointless, I guess."
"I'm starting to think that as well." Vlad said, straightening up his hat.
"Come on, guys!" Dmitri continued fiddling with the music box in his hand, "don't give up hope. She doesn't even have to be the real Anastasia from forever ago. We just have to make her believable and all."
"Alright fine," Y/N quickly gave in, for she didn't want this fight to keep going on. It was kind of annoying to her. "We'll keep on trying, just for a bit longer."
"And then we're out of here," Dmitri said, a smile spread across his face while he laid back.
A knock echoed through the room and Dmitri jumped up, almost tripping, "Shoot, those ladies told.."
"Hide!" Vlad quietly exclaimed.
Y/N sighed, having a feeling the two were overreacting. But that was most likely just her, so, she hid behind a tall couch, then peaked her head out, just a bit.
"Hello?"
