❄️Far away, long ago.❄️

Snow fell down, sending shivers down her spine, chattering and business filled the streets and alleys. But she was determined, determined to give this to her.

Sneaking and ducking around was something she always seemed to be good at. And once again, she was determined! That was why she was sneaking into the castle.

Now, normally her father was fine with this. But he specifically told her not to go in there today.

But oh, she had to disobey.

She wanted to see Anastasia, for she had gotten something for her and she couldn't wait just another day to give it to her.

Finally, after a bunch of climbing and crawling, she entered her friend's room, a playful grin on her face once she opened the door, "Hi, Anastasia!" She chirped.

"Y/N!" The girl smiled, lifting her head up from the pretty musica box she had in her hands. But something was off, the girl could tell she was sad.

"What's wrong?" She shut the door behind her, making sure it was locked. "You can tell me, you know." She stuffed the necklaces in her pocket, walking up to her.

"Oh no, I'm fine," she wiped her eyes. "Just a bit sad, I guess. But I feel better." She have a small smile.

"You sure?"

"I mean, my grandmas just moving away to Paris.." she bit her lip, in a miserable attempt to stop it from trembling, "B-but it'll be alright, when I'm older, I'll see her again!" She declared.

"I hope so," Y/N smiled, glad to see her friend smiling like her normal self again. It made her happy as well.

"But until then, I'll have you," Anastasia ran her finger over the music box, then turned to face Y/N. "Right?"

A fluttery feeling made its way into the young girl's stomach, she then felt her face heat up, "Of course!" She smiled giddily, "Oh, that reminds me,"

Anastasia tilted her head, suddenly very interested, "Hm?"

She reached into her pocket then pulled out two necklaces. One with half of a heart and one with the other. It was something she saw a lot of people wearing nowadays, so she wanted to get Anastasia and her one, "Here," she held it out for her.

Anastasia tilted her head curiously, her eyes lighting up once she realized what it was, "It's so pretty!" She quietly said in awe.

"Really?" A smile played at Y/N's lips. "You like it?"

"Yes!" She threw her arms around her, giggling. "I love it."

"Mhmmm," she smiled. "I'm glad you like it."

"Do you mind putting it on for me?" Anastasia shyly asked.

"Oh I can," she brushed her hair out of the way, then hooked her necklace, "There." She backed up.

"Thank you, Y/N." Anastasia hummed. "It means so much to me — that you got me that necklace."

"Of course. I'm glad you like it," Y/N wrapped her arms around Anastasia. "I love you."

"I love you too, Y/N.." she smiled sweetly.

Gunshots echoed through the castles hallways along with screams and cries. It was crazy to believe, not long ago they were all happy and celebrating, but now it's complete and utter chaos.

Was this why her dad didn't want her to go to see Anastasia today? But he couldn't tell the future! This was.. so odd.

Where was Anastasia? Was she gone?

..Was she dead?

The girl and her brother clung to their dads legs, their eyes wide with shock. They didn't know what to think, or what to do.

She dodged and walked through the familiar streets she's grown to know all her life, chattering surrounded her and filled her ears.

There were plenty of rumours in St. Petersburg. Maybe even too much to remember, but there was one everyone seemed to remember and continue murmuring about,

Did Anastasia Romanov somehow survive the revolution?

She didn't know what to think of it. The thought seemed crazy and unrealistic, impossible even.

She sighed through her nose, the snow seemed to fall heavier now. She grabbed onto the straps of her backpack then marched off, doing everything she could to rid herself from those thoughts.
