❄️Love is nowhere near easy.❄️
Everything seemed so unreal. The fact that Anya really was Anastasia, the fact that they made it this far, and the fact that their journey was about to end.
Y/N would have to kill Anya. Not just to follow in her fathers footsteps, but the chances of her death were high as well. She wasn't stupid, she knew the consequences.
She stared at herself in the mirror with an upset expression. She let out a sigh, pulling a necklace from out of her pocket.
She traced over it as tears brimmed in her eyes. Oh, how she wished she could go back then, and just be little — all care free. She wouldn't have to worry about anything like this at all.
"How do I look?"
Y/N let out a small squeak then turned to face the girl in the doorway. Blinking a few times, trying her best not to look starstruck, she smiled, "you look beautiful. Like a princess."
A blush dusted her cheeks, a shy grin now graced her face, "thank you. Really, it means a lot coming from you."
Her gaze softened, and she shoved the necklace back into her pocket, "Are you alright, Anya?"
"Oh, yeah." She gave a small smile. "I'm just nervous and all."
"You'll do great."
"You really think so?"
"I know so."
Anya pulled the girl in for a hug, her arms wrapping around her waist. Y/N felt her breath hitch. Gosh, she was such an embarrassment.
After a moment, Y/N wrapped her arms around Anya's neck in return, earning a hum from the other girl, "I promise," Anya started, "we'll see each other again, even if she recognizes me as Anastasia." She bumped her nose against Y/N's cheek, a giggle following after, "I better go. You need to finish getting ready."
"Alright, Anya," Y/N hummed, slightly flustered, "See you later?"
"Mhmm!" She left after that, leaving Y/N alone, surrounded in the silence and her thoughts.
She looked at herself in the mirror once more, pulling the necklace out from her pocket and hooking it around her neck.
It wouldn't hurt to wear it.
"So we just.." Anya murmured to Dmitri, fidgeting with her hands nervously, wait until this is done? Then we see her?"
"Yeah," he whispered back, "that's the plan."
Anya continued to fidget in her seat, fear and nervousness seemed to get to her more and more by the second.
Y/N glanced over at her then intertwined their hands, "it'll be okay, I promise." She murmured.
Anya gave a small nod, a grateful smile followed after.
Y/N smiled back, but it quickly faded once her eyes narrowed on him.
He wasn't far away, oh no. She could tell it was him, he wore that smug look at his face, gazing right at her. It was almost as if he wanted her to spot him purposefully. The thought seemed to only infuriate and worry Y/N more.
Why was he here?
Y/N let out a sigh, "I need to go. I'll be right back."
"But-"
"Dmitri will be here."
Anya looked up at her, her blue eyes wide with concern. But she eventually nodded, watching Y/N as she left.
"Gleb."
"Y/N."
She shook her head, "what are you doing here?"
"What do you think?" He narrowed his eyes, his hands crossed behind his back.
Y/N knew the answer all too well. But she wouldn't dare say it aloud, "I can handle this myself. It's what I came here for."
"I don't think so," Gleb now started circling around his sister. It was something old, something she's seen on rare occasions when she and Gleb would watch those black and white films. But this time, it scared her, for it was her in the victims place, "you're even wearing that necklace. Are you not?"
Y/N glanced down at it then nodded, "but I'm going to kill her. There's no need to worry." Her gaze followed him as he walked around her.
"I'll make sure of it." He stopped, and turned to face Y/N fully, "your life and mine are on the line. Some simple liking towards someone won't keep you alive. Plus, who knows if you'll see her again even if you don't kill her."
"I know, Gleb, " Y/N quietly exclaimed, "I've thought this through over the past few weeks. I've thought of the consequences and so on."
"Good," He straightened up, "now go on. We don't want them spotting you with me."
Y/N nodded slowly, walking back to the others.
She found that she was holding her breath most of that conversation. She was nervous, scared, and worried. She didn't want to kill Anya, she loved her.
Oh, how awful that sounds. You love your own enemy.
And once she did kill her, she would have to deal with the guilt for the rest of her life, along with the grief.
It was all so frustrating.
